Good sturdy bird table, nice to look at
I'm very pleased with my new bird table, which looks great in my garden. Looks very solid. It is now ready for the BIG garden bird watch this weekend. My partner put it together and found it quite easy if you are experienced at DIY. Although the section about putting the plastic tray in wasn't that clear on the instructions. Also the RSPB logo is also missing.
    Would definitely recommend this product.

No problems assembling, all parts there. Good, well designed table. Shame the rspb logo was missing, though.

RSPB response: Thank you very much for the review, sorry the logo was missing. If you'd like to get in touch we can send you out an RSPB logo.

Beautiful to look at, very sturdy, good design
This bird table looks very attractive in the garden. It is a good size and made with high quality, solid wood. My partner had no difficulty putting it together, but he is v. good at that sort of thing. He did say some of the holes didn't line up perfectly but that it wasn't a problem. We added a bar across the bottom so we could use ground stakes to fix it down - and relieved we did after Storm Eleanor hit yesterday. The removable tray is a great idea to help keep the floor clean. Would definitely recommend this bird table - it really is beautiful.

    Country barn bird table
Bought this yesterday and it arrived this morning. Was fairly easy to assemble but such a pity there is no RSPB logo anywhere to be seen with it.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review. Our logo should be on the bird table in the form of a small plaque. I apologise if it is missing.

    Hard work!!
This is a lovely bird table but unfortunately had to have a replacement sent due to a damaged bird table. As mentioned before it takes a fair while to get together and is hard work, but worth the while in the end.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review. We are glad you think this bird table is worthwhile, and we will take your comments on board with regards to the assembly of the product when discussing any improvement with our supplier.

Good looking but I found it difficult to assemble
Delivery was very swift (next day). Everything looks good out of the box. However, I am no carpenter but this seems poor in one respect. It's taken me 1 hour so far to get 2 of the 4 legs on. The holes for the screws don't seem to line up on one of the pieces. And the hole has not been sufficiently prepared for a manual screwdriver. Experience so far reminds me of the old frustration with Ikea self assembly furniture. I don't expect to find this from a bird table that cost £85. Not good enough. I don't think it's purely down to my lack of expertise. I seem to be doing all the right things. Screws are correct size. I'm working methodically through the instructions but am stuck early on. I may need to get my husband to use a drill attachment to get the legs on before I can proceed. Disappointing. I expected to be able to put it together unaided. Otherwise, the product looks great and others don't seem to have made any comment in reviews about problems assembling.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, I am sorry to hear of your difficulty with assembling this product. We review and test our instructions multiple times before signing off on the finished product, however we will take your comments on board and look into the instructions for this table again to see if we can make any improvements.

    Very happy with this table.
I have now had this table for over six months and am very happy with it. I had no problems assembling it although like other people I had two screws left over. I don't think I missed a step out so I can only assume I was supplied with too many.

I bought this for a small garden in my new home and it took a few months before the birds found it. Lately however it has proved very popular with the local sparrows, starlings and wood pigeons amongst others. Being able to slide the table out for cleaning is a major plus point and would insist on this feature being present on any future table I buy. Not that I anticipate having to replace this one any time soon, it is a quality product. Some tables can get blown over in strong winds but I have had no issues with this one on this score. The nice RSPB name plate got knocked off when cleaning which is a shame. I shall look to obtaining some glue to fix it back on.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase and would say it is well worth the price.

    Great, well designed table.
This table is an excellent, well designed product - much better than those available in garden centres. It was easy to put together - the only small point was that the holes in the small bracing piece were covered by the larger bracing piece but I managed to drive screws through the wood anyway.
The removable plastic tray is a brilliant idea, making it easy to clean. I've not seen that on tables elsewhere. Taking heed of comments made in another review about the tray being difficult to remove once the roof has been screwed on I put four sheets of paper on the tray before screwing the roof supports on. This gives enough thickness to make the tray easily removable without being too loose.
There is no method included of hanging feeders from the table so I popped some small metal braces (already with holes in) onto each of the screws before screwing them into the sides securing the roof supports. You can then put the wire handle of the feeder into the hole in the lower part of the metal brace. You may need to swop the 30mm screws for 40mm ones to accommodate the thickness of the brace. The braces, measuring about 5cm x 1.5cm are available in DIY stores.

    one problem
excellent value for money...sturdy & well constructed. BUT I have a problem which I'd appreciate advice on ! Using the actual table tray (which by the way is convenient to be able to slide out for cleaning) I find that the pigeons come in droves and almost suck up the feed like a vacuum cleaner ! , in NO time at all, which scares, and deters, smaller birds from being able to feed, at all ! I realise that larger birds, be it pigeons or whatever, have to feed, as well, but if they detect food they'll find the source ... how to ""accommodate"" them and at the same time give an even chance to smaller birds is a conundrum ! At the moment I don't use the table tray, but hang seed feeders from underneath it and a mesh feeder on the ground suffices for larger birds but it seems almost a waste if the table ""tray"" isn't being utilised.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, we are very pleased to hear you're happy with the country barn table. It is a sturdy and lovely looking table. With this particular table there is no guard against larger birds like woodpigeons, you are quite right when you say that the large birds need food too, we also understand your frustrations that they eat all the food but rest assured that smaller birds usually do get a look in afterwards. Other options are a guardian for your ground feeder so that some small birds can only feed from there. If you have trees in your garden you could utilize the branches and use a tree hook to hang feeders for your small birds, then use your bird table for the others. We also sell a bird table called the adjust-table which is designed to be set at different levels to only allow small- medium birds to feed as you wish but appreciate this is another bird table when you already have one.

Fantastic loved by birds and me
Was quite quick and easy to assemble, but a lot easier with 2. Is very sturdy and looks as if it will last for years.
I Have been putting sunflower seeds and fat pellets on the table and it has attracted, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, blackbirds, robins, pigeons and even magpies all within 3 days.
I love watching the birds and the 'pecking' order. Quite a few sit on a tree or fence wait until the coast is clear then quickly swoop in grab the food and fly off, as long as they aren't chased away by someone bigger.

Looks great - an excellent product
This Christmas gift from my son was easily assembled during the afternoon following the simple instructions and using a small battery operated screwdriver. Two screws too many?
Well the project of constructing this bird table was largely untroubled and interesting diversion before tonight's evening meal, with cat looking on bemused and trying to help ou by playing football with the screws I had counted, checked and laid out in lines on the floor waiting to be used. Anyway completed in just over an hour, and it looks much like the photo in the catalogue, which is good. However I was surprised to find two 60 mm screws left over unused at the end. 10 screws are provided, and detailed on the instruction sheet, but only 8 seem to be used during the construction, unless I slipped up somewhere? Are there meant to be two spares, or where are the 10 actually used?

RSPB response: Hi Nigel, thank you for your review. We have contacted our supplier and they have informed us that only 8 60mm screws should be provided. Thank you bringing this to our attention, we will correct this for future orders.

    Country Barn Bird Table
Putting this together was not hard. It looks lovely and very pleased with it The instructions say that the plastic liner should be removed for cleaning. I cannot see how the side can be swivelled upward to allow the liner to slide out sideways. Do the screws have to be removed? Please explain how it can be done

RSPB response: Thanks for your review, one of the tray sides under the lowest part of the roof should swivel upwards, allowing the tray to slide out. This pivoting side will be held on by two screws, one on each end, at the top of the panel.

Good sturdy product - looks lovely - took just over half an hour to construct.
Very happy with this table ... one slight problem is that the tray won't come out for cleaning as it is stated that it should swivel but because the screws prevent any movement. I can just hose it down instead but it is a shame that a simple tray that lifts in and out isn't included. Make life simple!

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, this table should definitely have a swivelling side to release the tray for cleaning. It will be one of the ends underneath the lowest point of the roof, which is only held by a screw at the top of each end of the side, allowing it to pivot open. If this is not the case please contact customer services.

    Just what we wanted
This Bird table arrived on time and packaged very well. We assembled this bird table within a couple of hours and we are extremely pleased with the result. I would definitively recommend it to others. All pilot holes aligned and the removable bird tray works a treat. However it wasn't clear what side should face up so I have decided to use the less shiny side to avoid the birds slipping etc. It is extremely sturdy and a good height off the ground. No problem either with the legs and it is all balanced perfectly. Only issue we had was the large bracing block was not in the package instead we had 2 small ones. I rang through to the customer service number and was asked to ring back on Tuesday and arrange for it to be collected and returned to RSPB for a complete replacement table. I did ask if only the large bracing block could be sent but they said they didn't offer that service on this product. As we were right in the middle of assembly the thought of taking it all apart again was not something we wanted to do so my husband actually made his own. He did a perfect job and it looks fab but this added a good hour to the assembly time. So a pointer for next time would be to make absolutely certain you have all the pieces before you start. We thought we had done this but didn't notice the size difference until half way through assembly. However we are really pleased with the birdtable.

Great concept - but let down by poor quality manufacture
This is a sturdy, considered design and looks great. However, poor attention to detail by the manufacturer means that it was uneccesarily awkward to assemble and thus a disappointment to the birthday-present recipient.
The 30mm screws supplied are too short to secure the table to the upright post using the bracing struts.
The instructions were only copied on one side - making it necessary to guess there might be missing instructions to find on the website. This has a 5 star cost with a 1 star execution!

    RSPB response:
Thank you for your review. The issue of screw pilot holes being slightly misaligned on the supporting struts was identified in one particular batch. When this was noticed we sent all of our stock back to be re-worked and got spare struts and screws to send out to any affected customers. Although only a couple of millimetres out, this meant that the screws (which were the correct length) were not long enough to reach the extra distance caused by the misalignment. This has been completely remedied now for any future orders and affected customers can contact Customer Services for free replacement struts. Instructions can be found on the product page on the web shop, and could also have been sent to you via PDF or in the post had you contacted customer services.

Needed a lot of remedial work to assemble
Now that it's built, I'm pleased with this bird table, but it is only built because I could square up the legs, re drill all the mismatched pilot holes and replace the screws that were too short with some of my own.
While the end result is a sturdy and attractive bird table, I would have expected a better quality of kit for the price. I'm not surprised other reviewers said they needed a power screwdriver, since the pilot holes didn't align - re drilling was my answer.
I know these are bulk produced, but really, there's no excuse for the producer not to set up their jigs correctly - or supply screws that are long enough to go through the brace and actually locate into the table!!
If you don't mind all the self build issues, the result is a large, sturdy and attractive bird table.... Come on RSPB... speak to your supplier - they're letting you down!

    Fantastic product
A very sturdy and tall bird table. Clear instructions-although the second part of how to put the roof together were missing- and easy to put together. The only concern I have is that some of the screws were too small and I had to replace them with slightly larger ones. But all in all a very good product. Quality and pleasing to the eye
As with other reviews, an excellent quality product. Good timber treated with preservative, pre-drilled for supplied screws and good instructions. We placed a two pence coin under each leg of the roof on top of the plastic tray (don't forget to insert the plastic tray first) before fixing the roof, so that when the coins were removed, the tray slid easily in and out.

    Poor value
    Disappointing:
Made of untreated wood. Components fit where they touch - not all do. Pre-drilled holes should be countersunk to receive corresponding screws. Pilot holes should be accurately predrilled in receiving components, especially in the ends of the main post.

We are not all blessed with workshops equipped with every modern power tool!

Received it as a gift; otherwise I would demand my money back

    RSPB response:
We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your purchase. Pine, being a very soft wood, does not need countersinking, as a screw can be easily turned flush to the surface with a regular screwdriver. The wood is not untreated, it is treated with a water-based, natural colour stain, as non-water based treatments may be damaging to the birds and any other wildlife. As there is natural flex and movement in wood, exactly lining up all pilot holes is not viable. Please contact customer services if you are unhappy, and they will be happy to assist.

It was also a bonus to receive £19 worth of suet blocks for free! I can't wait to get this in the garden and seeing the birds getting full use of it.
