Why choose RSPB bird food?
The RSPB takes pride in giving birds the best, most nutritious bird food we know they love. Read on to find out what makes RSPB bird food so special.
Feeding garden birds is a great way to support the birds in your garden while getting closer to nature. But, with such a huge variety of bird food brands available, it can be difficult to know which have birds’ best interests at heart.
At the RSPB, bird safety and wellbeing is our priority, so you can rest assured that you’re buying great quality bird food that supports birds’ nutritional needs and helps give back to nature.
Quality ingredients
RSPB bird food contains the finest quality ingredients available, without the fillers you might find in cheaper bird food. Ingredients lacking in nutrients, such as whole maize, whole oats and red dari, feature in many bird foods on the market, but not in RSPB bird food. We keep our prices as low as possible, but we can’t compromise on food quality or bird health.
Fair to Nature
We always do everything we can to minimise the impact on wildlife. Most of our bird food is approved by Fair to Nature, which means it is grown on land actively managed with wildlife in mind. Fair to Nature is the only UK certification scheme to focus on biodiversity and the only one to promote and support the scale of land management needed for UK wildlife to thrive. Gives back to wildlife
The RSPB is always striving to do more for nature and wildlife - helping to save species and habitats all over the UK. Profits from our sales across the online shop and retail stores contribute to the RSPB’s vital conservation projects. You’re not just feeding your garden birds – purchasing from us means you’re helping wildlife everywhere.
Sunflower hearts
Our Premium sunflower hearts are high in protein, energy and healthy fats, making them a great food choice for garden birds. They're higher in oil (and energy) than peanuts, and are almost universally accepted and enjoyed by most garden bird species. They’re suitable for feeding all year round and are particularly popular with tits, finches, Robins, Blackbirds and House Sparrows.
Bird seed mixes
Each of our seed mixes has been carefully curated using high-quality ingredients to ensure a whole host of bird species are catered for. We also consider the needs of those feeding the birds, with mixes such as our No grow ground mix, which limits unwanted plants growing on the ground, and No mess sunflower mix, specially created to keep your garden free from the mess of seed husks. Our Feeder mixes have been specifically created for feeding in tubular feeders, and our Favourites blend is a popular choice, as we've combined three of our best-selling ingredients to create a mix that is irresistible to garden birds.
Suet balls, cakes and pellets
Suet will always be an essential for avid bird feeders – rich in energy, it’s ideal for supporting birds’ nutritional needs, particularly during the winter months when food is scarce and extra energy is needed to keep warm. Our Super suet recipe is a clean, high-fat recipe with no cheap fillers.
What our customers think
"We get Blue Tits, Great Tits, Long-tailed Tits, Robins, Starlings, and Goldfinches (in addition to the Magpies and Squirrels!) coming to enjoy this seed. The Blackbirds and Dunnocks eat any that falls down below."
