    Although the Catwatch ultrasonic cat deterrent does work with a high-quality 9V alkaline battery the manufacturers report a 30% increase in alarm noise when the unit is used with this mains adapter.

    More powerful and cheaper to run
    I have had a Catwatch for some time but kept forgetting to change the batteries when required.
    I was told that the mains adaptor that the RSPB sell would do the job and it has. No more batteries to replace and even less cats coming into the garden than before, as I believe the unit is more powerful when run off the mains.
    Thanks RSPB, no more dead birds in my garden and no more cat mess.

    Totally unfit for purpose
    The person who designed this didn't think it through at all. The transformer is not waterproof, so unsuitable for use with an outdoor powerpoint, if you have one. The only way to use it would be to have it indoors, and drill a hole through an external wall, but it would have to be quite a big hole because there is no way to take off the cap the battery fits onto. And the cable is not an outdoor spec either.
    The catwatch unit itself is very effective, but unless you are using it in your living room you have to run it off batteries.

    RSPB response - Thanks for your review. We contacted the manufacturer and they have not had any other complaints about the mains adapter. The unit is low voltage, so the cable does not need to be armoured. Many people tend to plug their catwatch into a socket in a shed or similar.
