    Plastic perches
These new feeders are excellent and so easy to clean. However two of the perches have broken so far. Customer services are always very quick to reply and replace the perches but I think a reinforced (metal?) perch would be more suitable. I would recommended if perches were more substantial.
    RSPB response
Thank you. Our Ultimate feeder range come with metal perches. These are more expensive, so we offer customers the choice. We do not often hear of Classic ports breaking, though we are glad that our customer services team were able to resolve this promptly.

    Not popular with Sparrows
As with other reviews, this is not immediately popular with sparrows (and that's the majority of the birds in my garden). I have put the old one back up (which is harder to take apart, but still functional) but will keep the the new one and will retry next year.
    RSPB response
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your purchase. Birds are wary creatures and can take time to adjust to any new feeder, so we would recommend giving the new feeder a few weeks.

    Safety concern
After having this feeder in my garden a number of years with sunflower seeds in, it has proved very popular with Goldfinches. Unfortunately one got it's head stuck in the hole. Only after putting the feeder on a table was the bird able to lever it's self out. I note this design of opening is on many RSPB feeders and a web search shows this to be a common occurrence!
    RSPB response
Thank you. We are very sorry to hear this, though we are not aware of this being a common issue with RSPB feeders. Our feeder ports are specifically designed to all but eliminate this risk, so this does sound like a freak occurrence.

Birds just don't stay very long if they visit at all...
I had to replace my old RBPB metal feeders and got this thinking great, easy to clean, but even tho I am still feeding the favourites blend I get a rare visitor now when usually my bird feeders are busy all year round :( this and the terracotta e.g. are just not enticing the birds in. Wish I had kept the old ones now ...
    RSPB response
Thank you for your review. We know that birds do use these feeders, though they can take time to adjust to any new feeder so we would recommend you give these a few more weeks.

    Update on previous review
Tried this feeder again when nesting began and demand was high, and this time no problem at all - the birds are flocking to it. Very glad I came back to it as it is so much easier to dismantle and clean than the old one.
    RSPB response
Thank you for sticking with this feeder and reporting back! It is great to hear that birds are enjoying the feeder and that you are finding this easy to clean.

    Not popular with the birds
This looked like such a good idea, but sadly the birds in my garden won't use it. I left it up for a week, trying 2 different seed mixes, but although the occasional visitor came the seed level never went down and I ended up putting back the old one. I wish it had not been "improved" as the previous version was fine.
    RSPB response
Thanks for your feedback. Some birds are warier than others so we always recommend allowing at least 2-4 weeks to enable cautious birds to get used to it. If you have other feeders up, you can also try removing them until the birds have found the new one.

    Easy to clean but fragile
This is the easiest feeder to clean that I have ever had. It is a fantastic design that dismantles into constituent parts which can be cleaned and disinfected individually. However, it is made of plastic and can therefore be chewed to pieces by squirrels. Can we have a metal version please?
    RSPB response
Thank you for your review, its great to hear how you are impressed with this design! We sell our metal Ultimate feeders which are suitable for gardens with squirrels. We will update the project page to state this.
