Product information

Suitable for robins, wagtails and spotted flycatchers, this open nester gives easy access to birds who prefer an open nest box and a concealed nesting space to keep them safe from predators.

  • Measures 25 x 14 x 12.5cm.
  • The lightweight nester can be wired into a hedge or attached to a wall using the fixing wire.

Most Robin nests are located on or near the ground in hollows, nooks and crannies, climbing plants, hedgebanks, tree roots, piles of logs and any other situations which provide a fully concealed cavity.

The birds are very sensitive to any disturbance during the nest building and egg laying, and will easily desert the nest if they think that the nest has been discovered. Unless the birds are used to people, it is best to stay clear of the immediate vicinity of the nest until the incubation starts.

With a wide range of expertly-designed bird houses to choose from, you can easily provide a safe, welcoming home in your garden for different wild birds. RSPB Shop also provides advice on where to locate your bird house. Help us give nature a home!

Great nest
Put this in a shrub a couple of month ago and robins have used it already. I now have 2 young robins in my garden - delighted. It comes with a bit of wire to attach it but I needed more to make it secure.

Super!
I bought 2 of these, placed some nesting fibres into the enclosed section and pushed them into a space in our garden hedge. Within only 2 months I noticed that there had been extra follage pushed into the nests and some of the nesting had been moved around. They were both clearly being used. Highly recomended

Not as depicted
I ordered this as a gift for a child. When I opened it to check it I cut my finger on rough metal, The nest was not as depicted and was poorly constructed. I was given a replacement - still not as depicted but I could not be bothered to return yet another one so kept it - but cannot see how it will function. A waste of money.
RSPB response
We are very sorry for the quality issue and we are glad this was replaced. These come with a metal frame/waterproof liner and should be tucked into the cover of a hedge. Please could you provide customer services with more details on how your item differs?

Robins nest
I bought this little nest after accidentally disturbing a robins nest with chicks in the garden. I felt terrible about it so bought this nest as a way of giving something back. When the robin returned it was very excited to find this new ready built nest!

First season’s success
I obtained two of these at a local garden centre at a slightly lower price. I was hopeful that they would be successful at some point due to Simon’s knowledge and reputation in the natural world as I only normally use WoodStone boxes not wooden ones which I have found have a limited life, so I was exceedingly happy when one of the two was adopted in the first season. The result were five new Robins some of which are still returning to feed. I hope that this may eventually be made out of WoodStone.
