What was wrong with the previous scoop
What a complete waste of money this was. So disappointed. My previous, horn-shaped scoop is still going, although it is a bit battered after so many years, hence trying the new one. Please, bring back the old one.

    Nice idea poorly executed.
I've used the scoop twice and pinched my thumb twice! The scoop has a lever that releases the seed and it has a pinch point as there is a step in the plastic which really ought to be curved to fill the gap which traps your thumb. The edge of the lever is also quite sharp where you are supposed to flick it up as well as being very stiff so I use the other hand to release the lever, unintentionally pinching my thumb at the same time.
The same design fault allows some seed to fall out when you close the lever, which is annoying as I got this to minimise the seed I drop when filling the feeders!
I think I can modify the lever so it is less bitey but overall not that impressed.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, I am sorry to hear that you are not impressed with this scoop. We have not had reviews before regarding customers pinching themselves when using the scoop, however we will look into the design of this product to see if any possible changes could be made to prevent this.

Badly designed, seed doesn't flow through it
This seemed like a good idea, but in practice it doesn't work very well. The catch is really stiff, though I guess it might loosen a bit over time. But more seriously, even seed doesn't flow through it very easily, let alone peanuts or suet nibbles.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, sorry to hear you have had problems with the scoop. There should be absolutely no reason why seed doesn't flow through it, we have them in our stores for customers to use with our loose bird food and we have not come across any complaints about flow. Are you able to give more details to customer services so that they can help? It is likely to be a fault on the one you have bought, in which case we can replace it.

Great quality scoop for a good price
This scoop is sturdy and feels pretty heavy duty - a great job for a scoop of less than a fiver! It's very useful for filling up seed feeders (some bigger mixes and peanuts need a but of a shake; other, thinner seeds flow quickly) and you can also use it with the hatch closed as a regular scoop for moving large volumes of food between containers quickly. Great value and high quality!

    Indispensible
I've been using this every day for several years and it's indispensable. Perfect for seeds and sprinkles. I've had no trouble with the opening mechanism. Just need to remember to store it in the closed position otherwise there's seeds all over the floor! I can truly recommend this product.

    Very useful
After seeing this product for a while I decided to buy it and give it a try. Previously I used a tumbler glass out of the kitchen to fill up the feeders but this took a while.

After buying this its perfect or the job and can fill up my large feeders in a couple of scoops, lasted well over the last few months and would recommend to anyone.

    Waste of money
Bought this when cracks stated appearing in my well-used Droll Yankee seed scoop. Got this one because wanted to support RSPB. Very disappointed. Mechanism for opening/closing the tab to release the seeds very awkward - and I don't have arthritic hands like a earlier reviewer. Luckily I hadn't thrown the Droll Yankee seed scoop away - and its still better despite its battered condition. Although this scoop is less than half the price I wouldn't ever recommend it. I can only assume someone in the RSPB purchasing dept never tried using it or compared it with the competition.

RSPB response- Thanks for your review. Sorry to hear you were not happy with the product. Please contact our customer services team if you'd like a replacement or refund.

    Does the job well!
Bought this item when it was reduced slightly, worth the money. The shutter is a little hard to open and when it snaps open so be careful not to hurt your fingers or drop it. I like that i can fill it up and then carry it across the garden without having to bring the bag of seed with me. Also use it to make a mixture of seed (e.g sunflower hearts and nyger) so find it very useful! 4 stars because of the hard-to-open clasp, but otherwise a great product and worth the buy

    does job but be careful.....
Excellent gadget BUT there's a design/build flaw making it very fragile.... I've now broken two in quick succession - both by dropping it on a solid surface! The first drop was high & hard, but the second was neither. Both times the joint between the spout and the body snapped.... Shame as it really does the job....

Great, just what we needed, not sure how robust the little opening/closing tab will prove to be, but a terrific idea. yes...ours left a nasty sticky label residue, but the birds haven't noticed yet !!

    The best scoop ever
This is the best scoop I've ever bought. I bought it for my parents, and am now getting one myself. We both have the same very large feeder which takes an age to fill and is difficult to fill without spilling. This scoop does it in no time at all with no mess. And you can use it as a scoop without worrying about it falling out the other end, as it only comes out the other end when you flip the little trap door. I thoroughly recommend this product.

    What a mess!!!
Apart from being ALOT bigger than anticipated, which means it won't fit into my bird seed container, the design is quite good & certainly better than many I've seen in shops. However, mine arrived adorned with an RSPB sticky label. Despite spending forever trying to pick this off, even soaking it in warm soapy water, all I'm left with is a white sticky mess all over the side of the scoop. Yuck!!! Nearly
