advice

Roosting pockets are best in a sheltered place, preferably facing south or east, out of prevailing wind that could drive rain into them. They should be fixed to a firm surface like a post or a tree trunk (using the wire clip provided), not swinging free in the wind. Choose to leave either the large entrance hole or small entrance hole facing out, as that will allow smaller or larger birds inside. Don't leave it with both holes open, as this could allow a through draft.

Not same material as picture
Mine were made of twisted coarse grass stalks. Not smooth like the picture. I've had to give the entrance holes and interior a haircut. Scared to death of a bird having an eye out on a stalk! 1 of the openings is 3/4 inch on one of them. I can't enlarge it for fear of damaging the integrity, but the opposite hole is OK. They'll still be used,(and money to a good cause) but certainly not what I was expecting

RSPB response

I agree - holes too small
Overall build quality OK. But the holes are on the small side. Wrens might be small, but small enough to use a hole 1cm wide and tall?
The bigger hole is only 4cm wide, so the advice to clean by putting a hand inside is only going to work if that hand is attached to a child.

RSPB response

We are pleased to hear you are happy with the build. It appears that you have a faulty item, we are very sorry about this. Please contact our customer services who will be happy to help.

Great product
I am surprised by the comments that the holes are too small for small birds. These roosting pods are for small bird, wrens, robins, tits etc. The holes are just right as far as I can see, mine looked fine for those little birds. I hung it in a big bush where I see the robin hanging around near the compost bin. I used string through the two holes and knotted it onto a branch. I think these are good quality and hopefully the birds will use them.
