Royal Bempton hanging bird table

RSPB > Bird care > Bird tables > Hanging bird tables
Beautifully designed hanging bird table specially adapted for the RSPB to ensure that it's safe for birds and easy to clean.
Crafted from FSC ® certified timber, this attractive table has one removable side and floor section, with smooth inner side panels for easier cleaning.
The low verdigris copper roof deters larger birds from landing and will gain even more character as it weathers.

Supplied with a natural rope hanging cord.

If you have a strong tree branch or sturdy bracket, you can hang a bird table. They should be set at least four feet (or 1.2 metres) off the ground, higher if you have agile cats in your neighbourhood.

    Poor quality
Ours fell apart within a month. Just the roof was left hanging. After having this repaired the base fell off. It's poorly made and not worth the money.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, sorry to hear that your Bempton broke. This certainly sounds like a faulty unit, our supplier makes these to the highest standards and we would not expect it to break like this. Please contact customer services who will be happy to help and we will feed this back to the supplier to look into.

    Poor Quality
I am going to see if I can swap this item for a better one as the roof has been rather poorly put together compared with one that I've seen in an RSPB shop. Also I am not sure how safe it is for the birds as the copper roof has a lot of sharp edges to it. Disappointed.

RSPB response - Thanks for your review. It sounds like you may have a faulty item, as these bird tables are very well made and totally safe for birds. Please contact our Customer Services Team to arrange a replacement or refund.

    Excellent first impression
Having initially been marginally put off by previous reviews, I've just received the Royal Bempton hanging bird table which arrived 3 working days after order. My intial impression is very positive - much more impressive and pretty than significantly more expensive equivalents I've seen in garden centres. Durability will only be tested by time, and by the local squirrels which will make it their mission to eat their way through the hanging cord, so it will need reinforcing before it's hung in the garden.

Nice little feeder - looks classy
Very nice and pretty little feeder, a little expensive but worth the money.

I bought this to replace a previous hanging feeder I bought elsewhere for £5 but found pigeons knocking in to it to get at the food.

This one has much higher walls so when the pigeon flys in to it non of the food falls out so the have given up :-) the food is going to the smaller robins, blue tits etc as intended.

In comparison to my previous hanging table it looks better, better quality and expensive nibbles put out go to the intended birds I want to feed so would definitely buy more.

I have received the replacement Royal Bempton Hanging Birdtable-but....
unfortunately when I got up this morning to refill the tray for the Birdtable only the Copper Roof was there.
The remainder of the house was on the floor, it was not smashed as it landed on soil/plants underneath it.
My husband said the Glue holding the Roof and the Wooden House together has come apart!
My husband has said he will try to put it together some how.
Luckily I have the existing Royal Bempton Hanging Birdtable but I threw the Ceramic Tray away as it was broken. I have had to use the tray off the Replaced Birdtable to feed the birds.
    I would appreciate your comments.
Thank you - I love my birds

RSPB response - Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us and sorry to hear you've had problems with your purchase. BROKEN CERAMIC FEEDING TRAY BECAUSE OF ABOVE
I telephoned the RSPB this afternoon with regards to the problems that I have encountered with the Royal Bempton Hanging Bird Table and am pleased to say that the table has been redesigned and I will be getting a replacement in the next couple of weeks as there are none in stock.
I am extremely pleased with the outcome as the table attracts numerous amounts of birds, i.e. Nuthatches, Robins, Blue tits etc. and is also extremely pleasant to look at in the garden.
Can I say that when I telephoned I found the gentleman I spoke to was very helpful and courteous.
I contribute towards the RSPB and it is nice to know that if there is a problem, they make every effort to resolve it and consequently keep the customers, both human and birds alike happy.
    Kind Regards

BROKEN CERAMIC FEEDING TRAY BECAUSE OF ABOVE
I WAS MORTIFIED TO FIND THAT THE HOOK ATTACHED TO THE BIRD TABLE /POLYESTER ROPE WAS NO MORE THAN A 'SMALL CURTAIN HOOK' WHICH WAS NOT DESIGNED TO BEAR THE WEIGHT OF THE HEAVY WOODEN HANGING BIRD TABLE,
CONSEQUENTLY THE HOOK BECAME DETACHED FROM THE HOUSE WHICH HAS & FALLEN TO THE GROUND & HAS BROKEN THE CERAMIC FEEDING TRAY.(THE BIRD TABLE REMAINED INTACT)
MY HUSBAND PUT AN 'EYE BOLT' THROUGH THE HANGING BIRD TABLE TO ENSURE THAT THIS COULD SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE BIRD TABLE.
IS IT POSSIBLE PLEASE FOR YOU TO SEND ME A REPLACEMENT CERAMIC FEEDING TRAY AS I AM WORRIED THAT THE BIRDS WILL CUT THEMSELVES ON THE FEEDING TRAY.?

Looks good and birds love it
Looks good and birds love it so far the pidgeons have ignored it.
A well made and designed product and easy to clean and refill.
It would be good if the RSPB sold replacement ceramic dishes for this as mine either got pushed out by the birds or fell out in the wind and broke.

    not durable at all
Not worth the money, yes it looks nice but after three weeks of being outside paint is coming off & the plywood base is coming apart....very poor quality.

Attractive and the birds love it
Had to make repairs on the screw fitting for the hanging rope. It probably would have lasted longer if it wasn't for our squirrel visitor squeezing himself into it. Our fault for hanging it from a tree branch. Needs cleaning frequently as the seeds get stuck in the trellis but I am happy with the product because it attracts a lot of small birds.

    Not pigeon proof
This is well made and looks great. Unfortunately it didn't take the pigeons long to work out how to cling to the outside and hoover up all the food inside. It did defeat the squirrel though.

    Pretty but not durable
This looks lovely but the screw fitting for the hanging rope fell out after only a couple of months :( therefore poor value for money. A toothbrush is required to clean it properly. My neighbours like it! The birds that visit vary according to what you out in the tray.

    PERFECT!
This table is lovely to look at especially when there are baby starlings wrestling to get inside! Plus I have had the pleasure of seeing one or two blue tits poking their heads out.Have had the product for over a year now and it still looks good and in perfect condition. The removable ceramic dish makes it easier to clean, however I agree with a prevous review stating that when the food spills out to the sides it can get caught up in the decorative slats which makes it difficult to remove all debris. I just give the box a gentle tap on the ground on all sides (after removing dish!) and anything that does not fall out I use an old toothbrush to dig out the rest. It looks good but most importantly provides a good feeding envionment for the birds.

    Attractive but perhaps not longlasting
Very attractive bird table but within a month the screwloop fixing pulled out and I have had to replace it with a sturdier one. The ceramic dish for the food is very nice and easy to clean, but unfortunately (on mine) can only be reinserted at an angle so to refill the food is a little bit more awkward than it should be. Cleaning of the wood structure can be fiddly as seeds get stuck in the wooden trellis and corners as it spills over from the ceramic dish. Finally, after having been outside for a month in rain, snow, sun and wind the wood joints have separated slightly but hopefully this will not get worse over time.

    A huge success
Delightful bird table, looks great hanging from my wrought iron arch. The birds love it and used it immediately. I watch them zipping in and out grabbing nuts, seeds and treats. Easy to clean and refill. Am thrilled with it!
