I bought this camera to replace an old trail camera that after 10 years had gone faulty (not RSPB one). I use them for monitoring hedgehogs in my garden each night. I have had it 3 weeks and it is well made and easy to use. With other similar cameras advertised on line I found almost impossible to get information regarding the length of time video could be set and other similar issues. With a link to the instruction leaflet being available on this site all my questions were answered. Some cameras only offer 10 seconds per video - this camera can be set from 10 seconds to 2 minutes. Having this information was the reason I bought from RSPB. One thing to be aware of is that it is heavier on battery use than my previous cameras so taking the advice in the instruction leaflet to opt for rechargeable batteries is my recommendation.

Quality camera
Bought this to replace a cheaper version which just stopped working . Very pleased with the picture quality and sound is a bonus BUT using batteries very quickly so need to purchase rechargeable ones . However, many makes of wildlife camera dont recommend them as voltage isn’t sufficient etc and the instructions don’t make it clear what type , can anyone advise please ?

Night time garden activities revealed
Really pleased with the Camera. Tried a few different settings but video only was best for me. Really great to see the night time activities in my garden and share with family and friends. The first night I used it in February it 'captured' a badger, who came and nudged the camera. The sound is amazing too - I’ve heard the badger eating and drinking from the pond. The dawn chorus is also incredibly clear.

I bought rechargeable batteries and a charger and it works a treat.

I bought 2 memory cards and just swap them over each day and save in separate folders on the laptop. Someone complained that it lost the numbering of the photos/videos when the card contents were deleted. My easy solution is to delete all photos/videos from the card except the last photo/video and the numbering continues sequentially.

Someone commented that it is difficult to open to replace the batteries. It is, especially with cold fingers in the winter, but easy to slip an old table knife or flat screw driver behind the latches and it opens easily.

Just remember to reset the date and time after replacing/recharging the batteries as this information is lost. The other settings are all saved.

I even thought about buying a second camera but instead I used the strap to attach it to a medium sized plant pot (with plants) that is easy for me to lift and move around the garden so I’ve been watching different parts of the garden. Even put in the neighbours to help them ‘catch’ what was digging up some flower beds.

My only suggestion would be a better method for tightening the strap, one with a ratchet type mechanism would stop the strap sagging.
