From the author, Mark Ward:
I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world enjoying wildlife, but in my opinion Britain is best, so I wrote A Year in British Wildlife to prove it. The book is a month-by-month guide to the best of British: what to look for, when to look for it and how to find it based on my 30 years of wildlife-watching on our shores.
There are a staggering 70,000 different species in Britain to search for in a wealth of habitats from sea and coast to river, heath, woodland and mountain. Every day brings new sights, sounds and smells to enjoy, from epic migration periods in spring and autumn to seabirds and cetaceans around the coast; autumn’s flush of fabulous fungi to summer’s abundance of wildflowers and insects. The weather can have dramatic effects on how wildlife behaves and migrants are around, so I’ve included “Weather watch” and “Find it” boxes to show which conditions are best for seeing sought-after species and fieldcraft tips for finding our most sought-after species. The book is jam-packed with imagery to really bring the British wildlife year to life.
