Fat balls usually go quickly but in spite of the cold weather here in Scotland the only birds that seem to like these are the crows,magpies and jackdaws, and, one day, a spotted woodpecker( he hasn’t been back. ) Plenty of tits of all kinds on the seed feeders, robin, dunnocks, blackbirds and pigeons picking up the seeds that fall out. I will probably bin the rest of the very big box.

I found that if you crumble the balls into quarters then the birds prefer them. Just about to order some more.

These suet balls seem to be the "Marmite" of the bird world, judging by the reviews - they either love 'em or hate 'em! Unfortunately it seems to be the latter category with the birds in my garden. I've occasionally seen the blue tits having a quick peck, but the other birds won't touch them and I've now had to throw away the balls which had been in the feeder for a couple of weeks as they had turned green with all the rain we've been having. A complete waste, and I feel it's not worth putting out more if the birds don't like them so will probably end up binning them too, which is a pity as they're not cheap. Will stick to the suet nibbles in future, which seem to go down a treat!

These suet balls were 50 per cent disintegrated on arrival and so were a real waste of money and suet.

I upgraded to the super suet balls from the standard ones, and am amazed at how much more popular these are. 7 balls disappear within a day, previously 4 would last at least a week....

I don't know why the RSPB can't see what is happening here with the mixed reviews. I ordered Suet Balls instead of SUPER Suet balls by mistake. Our birds love the Super Suet balls, not at all interested in the ordineary Suet balls. Reading the reviews, it is obvious others have done the same. The website should make this clearer.

I ordered these on the basis of the great reviews, previously I put out Pets At Home fat balls but the birds did not like them and I had to throw them away. So I bought these much more expensive RSPB ones. But despite the very cold weather, frosts and snow, the birds have not touched these at all. So disappointed as they are so expensive. What can be wrong?

Every sort of tit, and nuthatches pile on to these, and the robins fly at them trying to pull bits off. Squirrels hang upside down to get at them. They ARE soft, but that's what they all seem to like. And that means you can take the smaller nibbled bits out and spread them on the ground for the ground-feeding birds to get a share.

small birds haven't shown much interest in suet balls over the last few years- but these have proved really popular- tits, robins, nuthatch all enjoy them. I have been using them for around three months, pleased and surprised at just how popular they are. Please don't change the mix!

My 6-ball feeder has to be refilled about every 3 days. The birds love these suet balls. I tried other brands and some home-made ones from a garden centre and the birds left them, they only want the rspb ones! The balls are eaten by Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Robin, Ring-necked Parakeet, Starling, Magpie and Jay, and the bits underneath picked up by Woodpigeon. Great product, recommended.

I have bought suet ball from both may local pet supplier and the RSPB and thye have been pretty much the same. The last box I bought from the RSPB were more like fat balls from cheaper suppliers, They were brown and you could see the bits of husk in them to pad them out .Suet balls are usaually much paler and no husk.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, I am sorry that you are unhappy with your super suet balls. I have checked with our supplier and the ingredients have not been changed for this product. Our super suet balls are clean human grade beef fat so should be pale in colour not brown as you describe, therefore the suet balls you received are definitely faulty. Please are you able to contact customer services with the batch no and photograph(if possible) so we can look into this. In the meantime customer services will be happy to arrange a replacement for you.

The starlings love them ...they would eat 20 a day if I put them out. The fledglings line up to be fed. I'd put more out now but I need a little respite from the squawking in the garden! A squirrel proof feeder slows them down but doesn't give sparrows the protected feeding space I had hoped to provide.

I have bought these fat balls for some time now. I have two different types of seed hanging up and some suet nibbles and the fat balls are by far the most popular with starlings, tits, corvids, blackbirds etc.

Some years ago a flock of sparrows occupied my garden, but they vanished when an extension was added to the back of the neighbouring house (the sparrows roosted in a hedge on the common boundary). There have sadly been no sparrows in my garden for years - until I put out these fat balls. Now, to my joy, they are coming back on a daily basis. Loads of other birds also love them & I have seen all the following enjoying the feast: blue tits, great tits, chaffinches, dunnocks, blackbirds, starlings, magpies (oh & labradors, who enjoy the bits that fall to the ground!!!).

Bought a small pack when at Leighton Moss as cost was higher than I normally pay. However the balls are solid and do not fall apart as they are pecked at and so last abit longer in the container. It attracted the blackcap to our garden for first time. We have often heard it singing but never seen it feeding in our garden. Always seems to be birds on the balls so I will be buying more soon.

Looked good enough with a good percentage of fat, but still hard to the touch, I put on the ground table but nobody really touched it, not even the starlings could get their beak into it. I tried crumbling it (with a lot of force), but it's not popular. I am rather disappointed with the RSPB suet products, and will go back to making it at home, or using other brands. Birds rarely turn their noses up at fat in my garden, so they've had their vote.

It is surprising to hear that they are hard as they are made to a recipe designed to make them softer and higher in fat than our other suet balls. They should not be too hard for birds to eat so we will pass on your comments to our supplier.

At first I was a bit sceptical about these suet balls,particularly as they are more expensive than the ones I usually get. Within 3 minutes of putting out some of these balls, a woodpecker arrived and now appears every day for her meals. She visits about six times each day! Apart from the usual blue tits and great tits, I have had increased numbers of robins and chaffinches. Even the goldfinches,bull finches and green finches,which usually just go for the seed mix, are now taking the suet. A cheeky pheasant and two brown hens also mop up the crumbs from the feeder. I am very pleased I decided to get these suet balls.

The birds love these - the baby starlings fight over them so I have to have 2 feeders to allow the sparrows to get a look in. They have to be rationed to 3 or 4 a day or they would get through the whole 150 in a week, given the option.

I unpacked these as soon as they were delivered and was a bit disappointed that nearly 10% of the balls had crumbled into pieces too small to be used in a feeder. Obviously these will still feed the ground-feeding birds. This fragility may be due to there being no inedible binder as with cheaper products and the crumbs will not be wasted.
I should think that the birds will love these.

You are correct to state that we do not have cheap ingredients and no inedible binders as we only use the best quality suet and ingredients but the balls should hold together so you are not left with crumbs. Bought the Super Suet Balls at RSPB Carsington Water and put some out as soon as we got home. Within 3 MINUTES a woodpecker arrived at the feeding station! All afternoon we have had a huge variety of birds,including nuthatches and redpoll...and the woodpecker. They are also mad about the Feeder Mix Extra! Will certainly buy again! Great quality!

I put three RSPB fat balls in the feeder and one fat ball from another shop and every time they eat the RSPB fat balls, leaving the other one. They will only eat the fourth fat ball if there is nothing else to eat on the feeder.

These are nothing like fatballs I've bought anywhere else - these are lovely, the best. They smell nutty and good enough to eat! Less messy to handle than other brands and easier to scrape some off with a knife to put on table for robins etc

These suet balls are really loved by the great, blue and coal tit even the great spotted woodpecker is a regular customer as are the starlings. But the real treat is that the balls are very popular with a party of long tailed tits which visit our garden at least twice a day, such a pretty bird.
Once again the order and delivery was quick and easy, something which seems to be standard with the RSPB.
So I would recommend these suet balls.

These fastballs go in an instant; The parakeets love them and I have a spotted woodpecker who visits every day. Had a nuthatch for the first time a few days ago!
I can't stop the squirrels however. They can get up and over the baffles or jump to the feeder poles from a huge distance. They chomp the fat balls, let it all fall and then drop down to eat at leisure. Unless the dog is out!

These are excellent value for money (about £2.37/kg compared to more than twice that for 20 super suet cakes), and better for the environment than smaller packs or the super suet cakes that are individually wrapped in plastic.

Lots of different birds seem to love them. I ordered 150 at the end of May, and they were popular all summer (and, as advertised, didn't melt in the heat) and have just been finished.

These are VERY popular with all birds (and squirrels unfortunately), but they get eaten so fast that I am having to restrict the amount I put out. Eaten much faster than the regular suet balls - they are quite soft, but don't crumble too readily.

I had read what other people had to say about this product and the opportunity arose to buy some when I last visited Minsmere. My birds had stopped feeding on my current fat balls so Ididn't know what to expect when I put out these new ones. I needn't have worried. Four fat balls lasted little more than two days!! and being in a squirel resistant feeder it can onlt have been the smaller species that were benefitting. Great value product.

My garden birds in West London can't get enough of them and the population has increased, in August, from the usual bluetits and great tits to include a robin which has learnt to use the feeder, starlings, greenfinches, house sparrows (not seen here for several years) and - I think - once - even a sedge warbler. On the ground we see dunnocks picking up the crumbs - and, inevitably, pigeons. I use a caged feeder which keeps out the larger pigeons, squirrels and parrots though the smaller ones try hard until they grow too big. Occasionally we get goldfinches and long tailed tits so I look forward to seeing these back again. The feeder is close to the house but the birds don't care and provide endless entertainment.

This is the only suet ball that the local bird-life has shown any interest in this year, and is quickly devoured. Usually the bigger birds get stuck in - blackbirds and starlings - and the smaller species have to wait their turn or pick the bits from the floor. Whatever the recipe is - it works!

I put out one of these along with four ordinary RSPB suet balls. the super suet was eaten within hours, and all of the others were left until the next day. Very fussy, the birds around here!

I bought these recently and put 4 in my feeder in my garden. They had gone within 3 hours. Starlings, woodpeckers and parakeets and other birds all went mad for them. I have soon run out of them and will be reordering more as a treat. Balls are soft but not too crumbly so fit well in the feeder.

Have just ordered my third delivery of these suet balls. Mainly for the sparrows, starlings and blackbirds. Now I also have Great Tits, Robins, Jackdaw and the icing on the cake a pheasant (male). I live in small town surrounded by fields but seeing the pheasant arrive morning and evening is wonderful.
The other cheaper fat balls bought at the local pet shop did not go down well, but I think with the RSPB suet balls the starlings have had a second brood, so many young chasing the adults about.

These suet balls have a good solid consistency unlike some that you can buy that are all flaky and fall apart. The RSPB ones have no plastic netting cover which is great as many people do not realize that birds can injure themselves on this. I have a simple to use and cheap plastic fat ball holder that will hold three of these at once. The birds (I get mainly starlings and blackbirds) think they are fantastic and I have great fun watching them pecking away at these feeder balls. Very good quality and value.

An amazing success! The birds seem to be ignoring all the other food in favour of these suet balls. Can't keep the holders topped up fast enough!!! Just about to order more. Highly recommended.

I've never seen fat balls disappear so quickly. I seem to be re-filling the fat ball holder every other day instead of once a week or more.
The birds love them.
I will be ordering again!
