Feeder guardians cannot stop all squirrels from gaining access to your bird feeders. Some small and juvenile squirrels will be able to fit through the gaps. Gaps small enough to stop all squirrels would also stop even small birds from using the feeder. A guardian can help deter squirrels and make it difficult for them to chew your feeders, making them last longer.

Keeping your bird feeders clean will help keep your birds healthy, happy and coming back for more.

    Excellent
We bought this feeder three years ago and it is still in good condition. It has fixed our local squirrel population and is very popular with smaller birds, visited regularly by finches and tits so that I have to top it up daily. The only “squirrel resistant “ feeder we have bought that actually does what it says.

    Absolutely useless. Waste of money
I had to give it 1 star because I wasn't able to go lower. I would have if I could have.

Have had this feeder out for fifteen months and it has only ever been visiited/used once or twice by the birds in that time.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear that you have found the product unsatisfactory. We and the supplier has listened to comments and their have been improvements made. We have tested the product and found that birds are happy to visit it and are not discouraged by the cage at all.

    Poor paint work
Nice looking. Birds like it not love it. But the paint is already peeling after 6 months I thought that was a bit poor considering the feeder has a 10 yr guarantee. The paint is not covered apparently. So poor to say the least.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, sorry to hear that the paint has been peeling off after 6 months, this should not happen at all. Feedback has been given to the supplier and paintwork has now been improved. Please contact our customer service team who will organize a replacement for you.

    Not Squirrel Proof
The best thing about this feeder is that its easy to put the seed in. However the young squirrels can and do get in through the mesh and therefore - as we have a squirrel problem this is not helpful. Its pricey if its primary purpose doesnt get met.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review , some small or juvenile squirrels can squeeze through gaps that are only just large enough to let the birds through, so this will sometimes happen. It should slow them down if not stop them altogether. We will however feedback your comments to the supplier.

    Useless
Squirell soon nudged the latch. It then exploded in a very satisfactory way showering seed around because it's suspended by the lid. (Who thought that a good idea? Tried it?) Fixed up a suspension that takes the load off the lid, but squirrel nudges the latch and he's in. Made positive closing of latch-will wait & see.
But basically it's completely useless. Disappointed. Want my money back.

RSPB RESPONSE: Thank you for your review. Sorry that you have been disappointed. We worked with our supplier recently to improve the lid locking mechanism, which has definitely improved this element of the design. It sounds as if you have a faulty item and we would be happy to help if you contact customer services.

    Beating the squirrels
This feeder is definitely not squirrel proof; my exceptionally clever ones opened it in no time. However I have now attached a padlock through the loops at the back of the fastener;job done. proved very satisfactory.

Squirrel thwarted! Unless he acquires a hacksaw.
An instant hit with all the blue tits, coal tits, great tits and nuthatch, but the finches and gold crest seem to have taken their custom elsewhere. The robin looks at it but seems to prefer to ground feed off the spillage created by the other birds. The main thing is the squirrel is thwarted, which was the reason for buying it, and the money saved on bird seed now that the squirrel is not emptying the feeder on a daily basis must be taken into consideration when considering the cost of this product. It is well made and you get what you pay for.

    Excellent easy to fill feeder
I bought this feeder as the bigger birds were taking all the seed so the small birds were left without. They love it as they perch inside while the bigger birds eat elsewhere. I would like to fit a tray on the bottom but not sure if one would fit, anyone any ideas.
Will probably buy another one as they are so easy to keep clean.

Keeps squirells and large birds away, but also smaller birds.
This is a nice looking feeder and it works well in deterring squirrels and large birds ( wood pigeons, collared doves etc), but unfortunately despite persisting for 5 weeks now, only coal tits have managed to master using the feeder. Blue tits, Great tits, nuthatches etc, have all visited but given up trying to get in through the holes. This has somewhat defeated the objective, and wasted the not inconsiderable money spent , hence the low ratings.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review. Small birds such as the ones that you have mentioned are certainly able to use this feeder. It can take a few weeks or more for birds to get used to a new feeder, particularly one where they have to enter a guard to feed, and particularly if there is another food source available. I would persevere with this feeder, the birds will get used to feeding as the weather gets colder and they are more in need of the extra food.

    Excellent.
This feeder is not cheap but it is excellent. It took a few days before the birds "took to it" but they now empty it every day. I have had squirrels climbing over it but if they were hungry when they arrived they left even hungrier. Cannot recommend it enough.

    Excellent feeder
We have found this feeder to be excellent for avoiding problems from squirrels. Blue tits love it and queue up to use the two feeding holes.
