Product information

The RSPB AN tripod is strong, sturdy and ideal for use with RSPB telescopes. Made from lightweight aluminium, it extends to a maximum height of 167 cm and closes down to a compact 66 cm.

The three section aluminium legs have non-slip rubber feet and the three leg angle positions make it easy to vary heights and improve stability. Quick action leg locks make for speedy and easy set up.

The Tripod head allows for smooth and accurate adjustment with minimal effort, using a single control. The Multi-position Arca Swiss fitting and single knob operation makes the secure setting of the plate quick and easy, while the safety stop feature eliminates accidental release.

Field tested for a year
I have been using this tripod for a year with an 80mm scope that weights 2.1kg. The tripod is really sturdy and the single control adjustment is great for fast set up and targeting as well as panning. There is loads of adjustment in the legs and head height adjustment. My scope is a little front end heavy due to the 80mm object lens but there is enough for and aft adjustment to keep it balanced. Shouldering the scope is easy and comfortable with the padded legs. I have walked 5 miles in a day with the scope attached and shouldered without undue discomfort. I only have two small reservations. The first is that the pack size when fully folded is still quite long. I have to take the head off the legs to get it in my rucksack. Not a problem if you are shouldering from the car but a consideration if you are travelling on foot any distance. The second is that the combined weight of the scope and tripod is quite high. This is not a problem on smaller reserves but it can be tiring over longer distances.

All considered this is a really well thought out and constructed tripod which has an excellent mechanism and provides sturdy and vibration free support for my scope. I am really pleased with the purchase.

Good tripod
This is a very sturdy tripod. The action on the head is smooth and sure. The quick release is most efficient being secured by a screw rather than a snap catch. On the top of one leg is a spirit level to ensure it is standing straight. On another is a compass. I am not sure what the purpose of this is as it never points North, which ever way I turn the tripod. I Find this rather odd. Overall .I am very satisfied with this product.
