    My 270 pound mobile
My friend bought this for my birthday.its a great piece of kit..the 1one and only problem iscthe zoom quality.im actually shocked that as birdwatchers it must be known by the company and rspb.thatcto getca close up look at our beautiful birds is an essential part of identifying them...i suggest rspb immediately ask vikings or whatever manufacturer they choose fix this.my mobile phones 245 pound phone gives me clearer images in the zoom feature.its an easy fix for them.if you want to see the birds from a closer distance the design is brilliant..get the zoom feature fixed and its a top grade piece of kit.until then I will accept as its important the rspb have the funds I will keep it.please don't ignore this its very very important to identify the birds we see for conservation or endangered ones love the rspb.you now have several reviews pointing out the 1 problem.easy fixed and if you get it fixed I will buy myself another

Thank you. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the zoom. This eyepiece has a magnification of 20-60x, which is a very common magnification range for birdwatching scopes, though we will pass your feedback to our supplier.

Maybe I was a little unfair!
Regarding my earlier review, I also purchased a big brand name scope at well over double this price and although very good with a prime eyepiece it also suffered the same distortion when using a high magnification zoom type. I have come to the conclusion that zoom eyepieces are always going to be a compromise and that I may have unfairly judged the scope in the review.

Maybe I was expecting too much!
I bought this scope as I wanted my money to help the RSPB. I’m guessing from the familiarities that this item is made by Viking? It’s well made, light yet sturdy and even though it is an 80mm model, easy to transport. The focusing knob is very sensitive and would have preferred it set to one side instead of the middle top of the unit .... But that’s just my preference. The supplied “stay on “ case is well made and fits nicely. The lens cap is of the hard plastic clip in variety.
On the down side, the scope is only really useable up to about the 25x magnification as the image gets very blurry and dark even on the brightest of days. At the higher magnifications chromatic aberration is quite bad, almost to the point of having a second blue image to the primary one.
I expected a vast improvement over say, an Aldi £40 special but in reality it isn’t such a great difference. Maybe I received a Friday afternoon model, or expecting too much for the money.
