Very Pleased - buying second pair
We have owned a pair of these binoculars for several years and have been very pleased with them. They are sturdy and not too heavy to carry on a day's walking. I am now looking to buy a second pair of binoculars and will be buying another pair of this model.

Really happy with them but ............
I'm really happy with these binoculars so much clearer than my current ones and can see better on duller days.
I have only had them 15 months and one of the eyecups fell off and was told by customer services it can take 4 weeks to repair. Not acceptable. Won't see much long distance nature for a month then

Great product - but be careful with the case
These are very clear, great close focusing, very good over long distances. Rather heavier than I would have preferred, but great value for the price. The only warning I would offer is that the D rings on the case are thin plastic and one broke within 3 weeks of purchase - I was lucky to catch the binoculars before they hit the ground.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, if you think the case was faulty please contact customer services who will be happy to help.

Excellent step up from a basic binoculars
Bought these today after taking some visits to decide which pair to go for. I'm glad I spent a little bit more on this model than some of the slightly cheaper range the RSPB offer. The image is much brighter in most conditions so far encountered and so it is much easier to see what you are looking at.
The 8.5 offers a closer magnification when stepping down from 10xmagnification budget binocs I already have. In fact I did not miss the slightly less magnification at all.
The build looks solid and the short strap once you get used to it actually stops them swinging around on your chest as you walk.
All in all very satisfied with them.

    great so far!!!!
We bought two pairs from the rspb shop in bath, the staff are brilliant and really helpful. we are both well impressed with the binoculars so far the picture is really clear and sharp and seem to have an excellent close focus. Comes with a hard case and a fabric bag so they are well secure in transport. also after wearing them for a few hours the strap is still really comfortable around your neck. so far they seem well worth the money. also come with a 10 year guarantee so hopefully these will last us a long time. also thank you to the staff at bath for directing us to the nesting peregrines.

Good value but one strange aspect
Purchased locally in Bournemouth.generally quite good brightness and chromatic aberration OK for price. Some pin cushion distortion and 'milky' halo over outer edge of view.
One strange feature was a ring of reflected image just outside the main view, possibly reflection off inner faces of the prisms.
    Good value otherwise

    happy but
Having received my binoculars yesterday I was immediately disappointed by the ridiculously short strap, compared with my original 8.5x42.

    Astonished
I bought a pair of these bins for my partner a few years ago and still find them atonishingly good value for money. As modern bins go, with the Leicas and Swarovkis in the thousands pricewise, I was sceptical when we tried them out at Dart's Farm RSPB shop in Devon. I must be getting old! Clearly the advances in lens design and technology are rapid. I've always thought that it was the close focus that sorted the cheapies from the classy stuff, but these focus practically on your own shoes! The image is always bright and clear and whenever conversations turn to bins I'm always banging on about them. Fantastic for the money, what's more they are 30 quid cheaper now!

    Great Detail
The powerfulness of it is well balanced with the wide lenses and the end result is a crystal clear image producing great detail from long distances. Great for 'robin watching' in the back garden or for 'buzzard viewing' at far more greater distances, this pair will not let you down! I have found no problems with the twisting eyecups and lens covers, and although once installed the neck strap is very comfortable, it is a bit fiddly to apply. However, a fantastic pair and one to last for many decades!

Good binoculars, shame about the acessories.
I had tried out these binoculars at Pulborough Brooks, so knew what to expect. In practice they allow me to see a larger image of birds than my old RSPB 8 x 40's, and the image is clear and, to my eyes, not greatly different to the HD binoculars on sale at much greater prices. The image is a little shakier than my old glasses, but you would expect that with the more powerful zoom. The right eye adjustment ring is a little stiff, and it takes a while to get used to the slimmer shape, but all-in-all these are great value binoculars for such a sharp image. I do have to gripe about the accessories, however. The strap that comes with these is apalling, with unnecessary bits of plastic at the end which get in the way of installing them in the binoculars, and there is no extension room so you end up with the binoculars hanging just below your chin! The lens caps are attached to the binoculars via rings and rather get in the way. The case is also pretty useless. I ended up snipping off the lens cap rings so I can remove them when in use, transferring the (mercifully simple and effective) strap from my old RSPB binoculars and also using the old case from these. Now I'm all set, but what a shame the RSPB couldn't get these simple things right so I could have handed out 5 starts all round.

    Fantastic binoculars
Received my binoculars yesterday via RSPB (superfast delivery!) & am delighted with them. Focus with ease, comfortable and light in hand and attractive too. I also like the RSPB signage on straps and main body. It advertises our great charity whilst we enjoy our varied birds & wildlife.

    Excellent value for the money
Bought to replace my faithful Swift Audubon 8.5x44s, which now feel so heavy and old fashioned. Optically just as good, much lighter and resolve within a whisker of my wife's Nikon HDs.

    Satisfied customer
I am very happy with my purchase of a pair of these binoculars. They have fulfilled my expectations in every detail. I took some time to decide which binoculas to buy and having read the other reviews decided to opt for the 10.5 x 42. This was an excellent choice. I am pleased with both the close focus detail and the more distant view. I look forward to many happy hours of using these in the future.

    8.5 x 42 Binoculars
I bought the 8.5 magnification after trying them against my own and other models including the 10.5's which are also very good. Reasonably lightweight, very good close up and distance focus with very slight twist of focus wheel. Just feels so right. Dioptre wheel locks too. Great if you wear specs or not in all light conditions.
