    Product information

RSPB Premium peanuts are a high energy wild bird food beloved of garden birds. We select only the best, top quality peanuts and, safety being our priority, reject any with detectable aflatoxin. Aflatoxin, sometimes found in poorer quality peanuts can build up in birds bodies, eventually leading to death.

Most garden birds will eat many different foods. Here is a quick guide to the birds that particularly enjoy this food, though other species may also enjoy it too:

    Advice

Feed this bird food from a secure wire mesh nut and nibble feeder to avoid the risk of young birds choking on big pieces, with a guardian if you don't want squirrels to join the feast!

    Best peanuts
I didn't actually buy them direct from RSPB but I wish I had because they're a lot cheaper! Anyway, the reason I paid a lot of money for a bag of peanuts is because they are superior to other brands. To be brutally honest, I buy them for my badgers rather than my birds (who prefer sunflower hearts and fat balls) but I'm happy to pay a premium for these peanuts. There are no shrivelled, dried-up, split, mouldy-looking nuts in here. Recommended.

    Like sweets for birds
I put these out mixed with oats in empty coconut shells in the colder months and they are loved by the blackbirds and squirrels. I also use them in peanut feeders and, this year, have had a pair of nuthatches and a woodpecker eating them. Since putting out a range of food from RSPB including peanuts we now get a huge variety of birds, including the nuthatches, bullfinches and Green finches visiting daily and it is much more relaxing and fulfilling watching them than watching TV. Thank you RSPB for your great products and the work you do.

    Suspicious quality as no takers
These peanuts are marketed as premium but I find that birds in our garden just don't want to touch it at all. We've tried putting it out on all kinds of feeders including standard peanut feeders, ground feeders and bird tables and have targetted birds both big and small. I've also tried to entice them to eat by mixing the peanuts with other kinds of feed - the birds will simply pick the other feed and ignore the peanuts. I can only conclude this is because the peanuts have gone off. I do know for a fact that the same birds do take to peanuts quite enthusiastically.

I'm quite disappointed as they are particularly more expensive other peanuts.
    RSPB response
Our peanuts are premium because of their size, quality and safety (they contain zero detectable Aflatoxins). We are not aware of any quality issues with these, but please contact customer services with the batch number and we will be happy to investigate.
