RSPB parakeet and squirrel resistant feeder

Exclusive to the RSPB, this sturdy feeder is made from stainless steel, with zinc-alloy ends.

Squirrels cannot bite and chew through the metal feeder, and also struggle to grip. Parakeets have strong beaks which will shred normal mesh feeders, our unique cheater feeder design eliminates this problem.

Suitable for nuts and nibbles (not seeds) |Measures 48 cm tall (including the handle) and 6.3 cm diameter |Capacity 1 litre |Castings: Zinc alloy - powder coated |Tube: Stainless steel

    No interest after 4 months
Sadly, this feeder is just not working. We had an old peanut feeder that was very popular with woodpeckers, nuthatches and various tits. The squirrels dismantled it over time so we replaced it with this one. After 4 months there are still no visitors. We bought a squirrel proof peanut feeder recently and the birds were back in the same day.

And now the squirrels are happy with their own feed box too.

Wish we'd put the money towards something else. Feels like a waste of resources.

Any other ideas about what a metal tube with holes in could be used for.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, I am sorry that you have not had success with this feeder. We have generally had good reviews for this feeder, and do advise it can sometimes take even 6 months for birds to start using a new feeder.

A good buy which has baffled the parakeets.
I have had this feeder for a couple of weeks and have been amused to see the parakeets trying to figure out how to get the peanuts. Unfortunately, they don't give up easily and still hog the feeder so that the smaller birds can't get to it.
Squirrels learnt long ago not to bother with my caged peanut feeder, so I hope that in time the parakeets will give up and go elsewhere.
