Nifty little set containing a packet of heritage sunflower seeds (Red sun variety which produce striking red-bronze flowers) plus enough twool twine to secure your plants as they grown up a trellis or cane. The cardboard packaging has a handy twine cutter made from upcycled metal waste, meaning no scissors are required.
Sunflowers are incredibly valuable plants to be treasured in a wildlife-friendly garden. Once they have fed the pollinating insects and they go to seed, they provide a natural food source for birds. You can grow sunflowers in pots for a spot of sunshine in the smallest garden or balcony space, although these prefer to be in full sun and benefit from support as they can grow to 1.5m tall!
Sow indoors from March. Full instructions come with packet.
✔ Russet twool included ✔ Plastic-free ✔ Made in the UK
Twool is a strong, durable garden twine made in Yorkshire from Dartmoor wool. It's extremely strong and long-lasting, yet soft on gardeners' hands and plants alike. Twool is made from wool from the Whiteface Dartmoor sheep, and production helps protect this ancient rare breed. The wool is collected at source from farmers who practise regenerative agriculture and land management in Devon. Low impact dyes are used to add colour to the wool. These are preferred to natural dyes as they require less dye and water, as well as removing the need for chemicals to fix the dyes. Twool can be added to your compost heap after use as it is fully biodegradable.
