    Disappointed
I bought this to keep pigeons from taking all my bird food from the blackbirds and other ground feeding birds. If a blackbird gets inside it I’ll eat my hat! The holes don’t seem big enough for them! They just run around it trying to find a way in. The small birds will not use it either but I’m hoping through time they will. Otherwise this will have been a complete waste of money! It does keep the pigeons off, which is what I wanted but also keeps all other birds off the feed. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I thought purchasing from the RSPB would be spot on.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you were disappointed with your purchase. Birds are wary creatures and can take time to adjust to any new feeder. They should become comfortable with the new sanctuary in time.

Good quality but birds won't touch it!
The table is very well constructed and I'm happy with the quality of the wired surround, I bought this primarily to feed and protect the black birds which visit my garden daily - they won't come near it. I think they're afraid of being trapped within the confines of the wired sanctuary. This hasn't attracted any of the other smaller birds either. A few days ago I removed the wire surround to see whether that might work but haven't had any desired takers as of yet. Of course, this now leaves the feeder open to use by larger and more dominant birds too which defeats the object of buying this in the first instance.

Thank you for your review. Birds are wary creatures and can take time to adjust to any new feeding set up. We would recommend you give this a few more weeks. The birds should grow more confident with the cage over time.

    Squirrel Friendly
Adult squrrels can easily get inside the 'FOR SMALL BIRDS cage. The left hand side row of corner squares on all sides are 4.5cm wide the inner ones are 3.5cm. Adults can easily enter the cage through the 4.5cm. I threaded cane down through the gaps of the 4.5cm and stopped the squirrels for about 5 minutes. They then worked out to get through the 3.5cm wide with difficulty but they did. The feeder.... to be honest is totally not a deterant and useless as an anti squirrel feeder as adults will get in easily. I would not recommend the cage to anyone.
    RSPB response
Thank you. We are sorry that you were disappointed with this. We do say this product deters large birds and most adult squirrels, but the latter can be determined. No cage is 100% squirrel proof, but this sanctuary gives smaller birds the advantage.

    Narrow mesh sanctuary
I already have a larger mesh version but the robins etc were being chased off by blackbirds & starlings. So I thought a smaller mesh would give the small birds a safe place to feed.
The blackbirds can’t get in but starlings can!! Not really what I had hoped for but still useful & good quality.
    RSPB response
Thank you. Starlings are small for their weight and we can't exclude them from sanctuaries without excluding other small species. Although it may not feel like it, starlings are endangered in the UK and so we would always encourage people to feed them.
