Coastal birds bone china mug which is made in the UK. Based on watercolour artwork by Devon-based artist Rachel Toll, this ceramic mug captures the flight of five of our most precious species. Puffins, gannets, dunlins, oystercatchers and avocets make up the quintet, and they all soar against a pale blue sky background.
Puffins and gannets nest in rocky outcrops along our coastline, whilst avocets, dunlins and oystercatchers live and breed in shallow estuaries. With our mixture of rocks, cliffs, shingle, salt marshes and estuaries in this country we provide a wonderful (sometimes temporary) home for these beautiful birds. But they are all under threat; from sea pollution, over-fishing and predators on land.
Our new collection of homewares is inspired by coastal birds which spend life on both land and water. Beautifully illustrated by Rachel Toll, the puffins, gannets, dunlins, oystercatchers and avocets are some of our most precious species. They might migrate here or live offshore at different times of year, but they all call our coastline home.
The RSPB is working together with other partners including National Trust, to improve the long term prospects for our coastal habitats. Click here to find out more about our LIFE on the edge project.
