Feeder guardians cannot stop all squirrels from gaining access to your bird feeders. Some small and juvenile squirrels will be able to fit through the gaps. Gaps small enough to stop all squirrels would also stop even small birds from using the feeder. A guardian can help deter squirrels and make it difficult for them to chew your feeders, making them last longer.

Keeping your bird feeders clean will help keep your birds healthy, happy and coming back for more.

    Poor quality
We bought this bird feeder a few months ago as we had bought the suet ball one with the light blue lid the previous year & it is very good.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for this one. On the plus side, the small birds like it & don't have a problem getting to the peanuts and the squirrels have given up trying to get in!!

The bad news is that there are two plastic lugs at the bottom of the feeder that have to be moved for the mesh feeder to be removed for cleaning and these are not at all robust and have weakened. As a result, when the feeder is refilled and replaced, the lugs let it go, the bottom falls out and the peanuts are all over the ground!!

Not very good for an expensive product like this.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, we are sorry that you didn't find the Geohaus feeder up to our usual high standard. This sounds like you have received a faulty product and it should be replaced, please contact our customer services team to do this. We will feed this back to the supplier.

    Not fit for purpose
This came as a birthday present. First of all, it weighs a ton and is too heavy for our bird-feeding stations. Second, it came with sunflower seeds that are too small for the mesh to hold in. Third, your small birds have yet to penetrate through to the inner sanctum to feed. We shall see...

RSPB response: Thank you for your review. The Geohaus nut and nibble bird feeder should only be used with nuts and nibbles and doesn't come with sunflower seeds, sunflower seeds cannot be used with this feeder. It will take a little while for birds to trust the new feeder, but they should get used to it. Apologies that the feeder was too heavy, your comments have been fed back to our product team.

Squirrel soon learnt how to unlock it!
I bought a Geohaus peanut feeder which is supposed to be squirrel proof. I am very disappointed because the squirrel has learnt to open the hook very easily and tip out the hopper and entire contents.
I used some bungs and a chain to keep it closed but to my dismay the squirrel has quickly learnt to undo the chain. Seems impossible but I just watched it happen in my garden!
    Nothing seems to stop them.

    Mesh too small for peanuts?
We bought this feeder as we were getting lots of crows and magpies feeding. However on filling it with peanuts we are really disappointed as its attracted lots of birds but the peanuts are too big for the mesh holes so they're not actually able to feed from it!

Very expensive compared to others of similar design on the market

RSPB response: Thank you for your review. The whole purpose of a peanut feeder is so that the birds cannot take out whole peanuts, as these can be a choking hazard to young birds in particular. The mesh is the standard size for peanut feeders and the birds will be able to feed.

    Excellent.
I bought one of these some months ago. It is quite expensive but it is excellent. I fill it with peanuts as I have another Geohaus feeder which I put seeds and nibbles in. I have a lot of squirrels visiting my garden and they have not been able to extract food from either of the feeders. I cannot recommend this product enough.

    happy with the product
I purchased this and found it easy to fill with the funnel. It seems to be safe from squirrels and rats, but time will tell in this big city patio.

My only concern is the difficulty I have opening the feeder! My elderly hands are not quite strong enough to open it without consternation.

I bought a medium-sized plastic seed tray piece that is sold to fit under other feeders to catch the seeds and hulls. I used garden wire to attach the plate underneath the feeder. I hope this works.

    Not good value for money.
We bought this from the Minsmere shop in December,as it was advertised and indeed looked squirrel proof. The outer mesh being a lot thicker and stronger than other feeders we have. However, the closing catch is not very strong, and within 5 minutes of the feeder being put in position,a squirrel had opened it,deposited the filling hopper on the lawn, and was completely inside the cage, enjoying the nuts.We have to secure the catch with garden wire to keep the squirrels out.I did send a note to The Nuttery, but have not received a reply as yet.

    Rusting
I bought this because it had a 10 year guarantee, but the mesh feeder on the inside is rusting and the paint is flaking off.
Is this part guaranteed for ten years ????

RSPB response - Thanks for your review. The guarantee covers the whole feeder. Please contact our Customer Services Team to organise a replacement or refund.
