Gothic bird table

When I ordered this it was out of stock but it arrived within a week.Great delivery service. Nice solid structure and an attractive feature. Slightly bigger than I expected but it looks great in the garden and the birds were soon visiting.. My partner put it together. Only slight issue was that I had also ordered the table stable ( I live in a coastal area with high winds) and the screw holes were in the wrong place (think it fitted another table) so had to drill new ones but not a problem. Withstood recent storm and gales without tipping. Easy to clean. Tray slides out. A great buy. Would recommend

Just bought this table really pleased with it very solid love the design so looking forward to fixing my feeders to it this weekend

I'm so happy in every way with my new bird table.
Good fast delivery, easy to put together with straight forward instructions and good quality materials, tray slides out for cleaning as promised, all I need now is the birds to find it

my birthday present ordered myself.
My partner put table together, of course he would pick fault. had to use some of his own screw''s as to attach roof to side''s the screw''s we're too short.
Few other minor thin'g''s but really not a problem.

If I had waited for him to make one there would be more bird causalty''s as I have cat''s. So we're all happy !! !! Thank you

Unusual to see a second review from the same person but I thought this bird table deserves a follow up.had this bird table a couple of months and it has exceeded expectations,despite a few severe storms where we live it survived them all and did not blow over once. I fitted the RSPB table stable and it has performed well. Obviously we put a nice piece of granite in the centre to weigh it down. The hinge system for the tray still works well even when the wood swells a bit so top marks for that. The birds absolutely love it and we get non stop activity all day every day and hope we get good results for our RSPB big garden bird watch in January. We have rejoined the RSPB as a family and it's been absolutely fantastic brings back childhood memories of the YOC for when I was small. Many thanks :)

Just put this together and despite some reviews saying its hard I found it easy and was done in less than an hour ,there is a couple of small glitches one of which needs looking into and that's the flip up section to release the tray.for some strange reason mine was pinned closed same for the other side,just simply remove the 2 screws and remove the baton then pull the brad nail out job done check yours should you not be able to lift up the side.the other thing was the pre drilled holes don't line up but common spence solves that :) . Other than that I'm so happy with my table and being a young family with 2 small children i thought getting my boys into loving nature like I did in my childhood during the early nineties will rekindle my love for feeding birds and will rejoin the rspb soon.miss the old bird life magazines :) . Had to get the table stable to go with mine as we live on an exposed hill top so my new table will be more secure.fantastic table and well worth the money spent

The table was fairly easy to assemble but I have not bothered with the hinged side or sliding tray. The worst feature is that the table is blown over by anything more than a breeze. We fitted a squirrel baffle in the hope of deterring rats but that helps the table to blow over. I will buy the cross bar feet but the metal U clamps supplied with an earlier version do not seem to be supplied this time. A pity.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review. Being top-heavy all bird tables are likely to blow over in strong winds. We have made these more stable than previous tables used to be; and sell a table stable for particularly windy locations.

Received the bird table a couple of days ago, very good instructions, simple to put together. I live in a city and only have a small courtyard and was desperate to attract some little two legged friends. Already I have had 4-6 blackbirds feeding every day, also some just sat on the roof sunbathing!! They love it and I look forward to attracting and watching more birds over the winter months!! I am very happy with my purchase and the bird table is far superior to some I looked at in local garden centres. Thank you RSPB : ))))

was surprised at the softeness of the wood as the structure
had it well placed in the garden
and as spring approached i secured it out into the garden
but with heaps of rain and wind
unfortunately it fell over and with the softness of the wood it split the gothic frame
after trying to repair it in a fashion was very disappointed with quality
and was certainly not worth the monies paid for it very disappointed

The table is made from solid pine, pine is a reasonably soft wood, but this is not a reflection of its quality or how durable it is, which is why a large amount of outdoor furniture is made from pine. As with any bird table in strong winds it may blow over, however ours are tested and are more stable than other tables we compared them with. If you contact customer services they may be able to help you with a replacement part.

This lovely bird table is a beautiful addition to our garden. It was easy to assemble and is very solid and strong. However, there is no 'unique hinge mechnism' on the table, which came ready assembled. The side pieces are screwed to the end pieces and neither of them will move let alone swivel. As any carpenter will tell you, this is because the threads of the screws work against each other if you try to swivel the side piece (the one that is not actually fixed to the bottom of the table). As another reviewer noted, it will be necessary to take out the screw at each end in order to remove the side piece and slide out the plastic tray. I have to say I did feel a bit miffed when 'the man on the phone' assured me that all the tables he has seen have this 'unique hinge' because ours clearly hasn't.

Thank you for your review, the side of the tray that pivots open is one of the tray sides that is under the lowest part of the roof. This section will only be held in place by one screw on the upper part of either end of the side tray side, allowing it to pivot outwards and upwards. I can assure you that this system does not require the loosening of any screws, however if you think your table is faulty please contact customer services who will be happy to help.

A very strong and well designed product, The instructions were very clear and it was easy to assemble. The roof has a good overhang to keep the food dry and the tray removal system is an inspiration.

A tip on assembly: when screwing the roof legs to the wooden tray base, put the plastic tray in place and raise the legs a few mm to allow for easy removal of the plastic tray as the wood will swell a bit when it gets older.

I have now to persuade the pigeons to dine elsewhere and stop hoovering up all the food.

Top class bird table, ANY bird table will blow over in a wind, just use a little common sense, tent pegs etc. This is a lovely bird table , I'm very pleased.

We bought this Gothic bird table this Spring from Minsmere. It has repeatedly blown over even in the lightest wind. We laid it flat during the heavy winds but now even in a light wind it blows over. It has been damaged & repaired twice. We are extremely disappointed with this product. It is surprising that supposed experts cannot design a fit for purpose bird table.

I purchased this bird table for my husband who loves feeding the birds. I was keen to ensure the table was well made - so many at the garden centres are of poor quality, so the reviews were v. helpful. The parcel arrived in good time and well packaged. My husband assembled it with ease and we are impressed with the quality and it looks lovely in the garden. (To remove the plastic tray you need to unscrew one of the sides so the instructions do need to be corrected for this design). Very pleased and have ordered another one for a gift.

It came when expected, was easy to assemble, looks really lovely in my 25ft x 28ft garden on the outskirts of London. As it is slightly larger than standard bird tables the larger species, e.g. blackbirds and starlings, are able to visit it. It is so stylish. Delighted with it.

This bird table looks good, assembles easily and is very sturdy, BUT it has no ground anchors. I was not unduly worried by this as I live in a sheltered part of the Thames Valley. However, I have just noticed it prone on the lawn for the fourth time this year, and it is extremely heavy and unwieldy to right. The wet weather has also swollen the plastic table base irremovably into the frame. I could not recommend anyone to buy a table of this design until the RSPB have devised an anchorage system to stop it from blowing over in high winds.

RSPB Response - Thanks for your review. Our bird tables have a low centre of gravity which makes them very stable under normal circumstances. The extreme weather in January/February 2014 would be a challenge to any bird table or wooden product left outside. Lovely except squirrels can easily climb onto it. It needs baffle on the leg on which it stands and or caging round the table.

Have just received this bird table, very quick to assemble with good clear instruction,and solidly made. The plastic tray is a very good idea.I would certainly recommend this bird table to friends.

Very nice looking bird table, quite tall, and very easy to assemble. Its being tested at the moment in the high winds we are having. As I live by the sea it needed to be on sturdy strong legs-which it is. It hasn't blown over yet. I will be adding hooks to the legs and using tent pegs to secure it into the ground as we do get strong winds and I dont want it to get damaged. The slide out plastic tray works perfectly. Very happy with my purchase so far.
