Great concept, poor execution
Pro's - Very sturdy and not moved even by the high winds we have had over winter 2019/20. Highest setting effectively deters pigeons and other large birds and slows down the starlings, mostly by making it harder to spot the food. Little birds love the protection the narrow opening creates. Attractive design. Roof lifts off and plastic tray can be removed which is ideal for cleaning and putting food on. Cons - less then 5 months old and the wood is already going black in places where the food has got trapped between two pieces of wood and black spots appearing all over, almost like it hasn't been treated. The instructions weren't clear and many of the pre drilled holes don't line up, or pieces don't fit perfectly together. The roof isn't wider than the feeding table so rain gets onto it causing the food to go mushy or worse germinate. Food gets easily trapped in the edges where the wood meets. Having to dismantle the tray so I can clean it properly and then treat it. May use a sealant to prevent food dropping down in future. Shouldn't be having to do this maintenance so soon after purchase (or at all if better designed). Table doesn't sit level, wobbles, due to a poorly attached brace underneath where the dowel goes through when positioning it. One of the brackets spins around 360, hence the instability of the tray. Several of the screws are so close in size (if I remember right there are 5 different lengths 3 of which are separated by 1mm) that you will accidentally screw the wrong ones in the wrong places resulting in frustration as you undo the work. Why not with the similar sized screws just pick one size for all of those applications? So much of this could be forgivable at £50 but not at over £100. If I knew how I would request my money back due to the blackened wood and spotting as this could have been resolved by as a minimum all the wood making up the tray having been varnished or treated in some way. The quality is nearly so right but with the little things that aren't mounting up it drops it massively. Plus my kit was supplied with one of the incorrect roof pieces and it took ages for the replacement to be sent.
RSPB response
We are very sorry about the faulty item you received. Our bird tables are treated with a water-based stain. The roof should also be larger than the tray. Please contact our customer services team who will be happy to help. We will feedback to the supplier.

Ok but not only for small birds
A quality table but feed tray is easily accessible to magpies and jackdaws even at the narrowest setting.
RSPB response
Thank you. It is great to hear that you are happy with the quality of this table. We are sorry that you were disappointed with the settings. The smallest setting should deter large birds, but we will feed back your comments to the product team.

limited effectiveness
Purchased this particular bird table as it stated the table could be adjusted to only allow small birds to feed from it. Iset it to its smallest allowable gap, Magpies and Jackdoors still get in and feed and are able to reach right to the centre of the table. Doesn't do what it says on the tin!

RSPB response: Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your purchase. The table is usually successful at excluding large birds, though we will feed back these comments to the product team.

Haven for small birds... but
Although the smaller birds like sparrows, dunnocks and blue tits can access it at will without any problems, I have a visitation of jackdaws that are also very adept at stealing expensive buggy bites. Pigeons however, the vacuum cleaners of bird food find it really difficult to enter because they do not have the balancing skills of jackdaws but non the less, it is quite hilarious watching pigeons trying there best to access my new bird feeder/house. They have their own ground feeder table with peanuts and seed that of which they will polish off in one greedy session, they are getting fed though as all birds are welcome in my garden.
RSPB response
Thank you for your review. You may find jackdaws less active once the breeding season is over. Pigeons and jackdaws can definitely be entertaining!

Does not do what it says on the tin...
We bought this to encourage birds such as chaffinches that struggle with hanging feeders whilst preventing larger birds from demolishing the food we put out. Although marketed as deterring birds such as pigeons we have found that these, along with Jackdaws, have no problems whatsoever. Even on the lowest setting they manage to cling on and feed. If anything it is the smaller birds that seem disinclined to use the table.
RSPB response
Thank you. From our experience and testing it is unusual that pigeons can feed from the smallest setting. Smaller and it wouldn't be safe for small birds. You may find the RSPB forum useful https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/feeding-garden-visitors

Adjustable bird table
I bought this item recently to replace my old table which had fallen apart. Once put together, which is fairly straight forward, and placed in the garden, the small birds took to it straight away and are loving it. Mainly sparrows and tits. The adjustable height means no more large birds hogging the food. All the birds in my garden are catered for. This just gives our smaller feathered friends a better feeding time. And with the table on the top setting, the birds can stay dry under the roof, even during heavy rain showers. A brilliant innovation and one which I would thoroughly recommend.
