I made the mistake of buying two large sacks of this product. My patio is permanently messy and the blue tits just throw many of the seeds straight on the floor (which is of some benefit to the pigeons). I am going to bin the second sack in total despite this being so wasteful.

I've just finished 2 large sackfuls but will not be ordering again. The birds and squirrels love it but it leaves a mess of black shells all over the decking that walked into the house (despite the mat) and even up the stairs!

Visited RSPB especially to bulk buy a seed feeder mix, to call this a “mix” is a travesty, 90% sunflower seeds! I’ve put some out but I can tell you if the birds don’t eat it it’s going back ASAP.

I hung these seeds over one of my raised beds and the pigeons kept knocking the seeds into the bed. As a result I had an amazing crop of sunflowers this summer! Really beautiful and loved by the the bees. I saved the dead sunflower heads and left them out for the birds and the squirrels who devoured them!

Surprised at poor reviews, have a job refilling feeders quickly enough, use this feed to stop starlings eating everything and putting off other birds, this years sparrow population seems to have increased, great to see feeders covered in them, have also had parakeets performing contortions to use them.

I have bought bird seed from our local pet shop for a number of years but then felt a lot of it was being wasted. I then changed to a big retailer and was happy for a while but then again felt the birds were rejecting a lot of the mix. I bought the RSPB feeder mix in a brown sack from our local Garden Centre expecting a mix!! I was surprised when I opened the bag to find 99% black sunflower seeds but filled up the feeders. The sparrows rejected the sunflower seeds and I took this bag back to the Garden Centre who refunded my £25. I was extremely disappointed with this 'Mix'. It is not a feeder mix at all just a bag of sunflower seeds sold at an extortionate price. If the birds had liked the mix I would not have minded but I expected a quality product and this is not it. The 'extra feeder mix' looks like it would be more suitable but to call this product a Mix is a misrepresentation.

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, the feeder mix should be made up from black and striped sunflower seeds, husk-free oats and canary seed. It sounds like you received a faulty bag and we will talk to the supplier about this. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

As some reviewers here I have a problem with this food: the birds are not interested at all in the black seeds that are the main part of this mix. So after having tried and picked up some of the smallest seeds in my appel feeders, they give up as the black seeds left create a shield on the top of the food. I think that since I have bought the 12,5 kg bag (03/03/16) , I have only used 2 kg at max 3kg. So, as the birds, I give up. It's a big waste though I think I am going to spread the mix in the Nature during my walks .Who knows perhaps some birds might appreciate it...?

RSPB response: Thank you for your review, it does seem strange that your birds do not like this mix, it is a good mix for many birds but particularly Blue tits, Great tits, House sparrows, Chaffinches and Greenfinches and those birds should eat the mix. We will take on board your comments and will

We bought this because the clearance offer made it such good value. What a difference compared to the brand we were buying until recently! There is far less filler in it & we're convinced it's attracting a greater number & variety of birds to our garden. We love watching the Great tits, Blue tits, Coal tit, Chaffinches & House Sparrows tucking in!

bought this to see what it was like and believe me the birds love it, put some out in morning and it was gone by tea time. and i am getting more birds in my garden...

Thought we would try this for a change but the birds in our garden really didn't like it. They eat the small amounts of oats but day after day we found huge piles of black seed on the ground under the feeder. We still have about 6kg sitting around and have had to revert back to the premium ground mix and table mix.

loved by all and sundry, in the recent deep freeze the local's were getting through half a feeder a day - finally buying it here rather than being ripped off at sainsbury's where they charge twice the price

Like others, I have noticed that birds seem to be voting with their bills, weeding out anything that isn't black, in the Feeder Mix. I wonder whether the rejected seeds are cheaper. I noticed an increase in this tendency, more marked over the last two batches, so I'm making my normal 25kg order of the mix but trying out the Extra as well. Could the any change to the Feeder Mix be the cause of fewer visiting Greenfinch?

excellent product,birds love it,eaten by tits,finches and sparrows in our garden,even the robins have a go,I have used this a lot but have to stick to caged feeders to stop the rooks and jackdaws devouring it all in one sitting

I have only had feeder mix for three days but already very popular with birds such as house sparrows, greenfinches, blue tits, great tits and goldfinches. Also any seed that drops on the floor is eaten by blackbirds and chaffinches. Highly recommended, great stuff.

This mix is great for putting it into a feeder and brilliant value for money lots of garden birds eat feeder mix including blue tits,great tits,and greenfinches.

Like Martin Whitfield, I found the birds in my garden wouldn't touch this seed although they had been devouring the Feed Mix Extra. Can't see why this should be so - - it looks okay. Perhaps it was a duff batch. Thankfully RSPB have agreed to refund and I have now ordered supplies of the 'Extra'

I bought a 2.25kg bag at rainham marshes and I put a feeder up and within a day the greenfinches sat on the feeder for ages eating feeder mix.I shall have to buy this more often.

I purchased this seed mix for my RSPB tubular feeder. When I first put the feeder out I had lots of birds interested in the seed for an hour or two. Not one bird has visited in the month or so since. I cannot understand why. It is almost as if they tried the seed didn't like it and therefore did not return. hmm I am totally puzzled. If anyone can help to explain why, it would be greatly received.

This is an excellent mix I put it in the feeder,on my bird table and scatter on the ground and the birds can't get enough of it Just about every garden bird you can think of eats this

for the past few weeks sparrows and others have been dumping the sunflower seed as I noticed sunflower seedling growing under the bush under neath the feeder and about a kilo of wasted seed.

I live in a flat in Birmingham city centre with just one tree nearby which is home to a pair of blue tits. I bought this seed for them but have also had a robin and great tit feeding from it. However, the real success story has been a pair of greenfinches which absolutely love the sunflower seeds. They fed constantly on it through May/June (chicks were suspected!) and indeed I now have their two chicks also feeding daily! I would definitely recommend this for urban dwellers who may be surprised what birds may actually be in the area!

This mix has really made a difference to the variety of birds in our garden. We now have regular visits from greenfinches, great tits, blue tits, coal tits and even the odd goldfinch. Previously mainly sparrows and starlings, who are in the main not fussed but interestingly the sparrows briefly went crazy over it feeding it to their newly fledged babies - had to fill the feeder everyday for about a week!
