This needs to be sheltered from rain. The seed gets wet. It doesn't drain well. I gave mine away. I'll build one myself

This product may look attractive, and birds are likely to visit it - but this does not necessarily make it safe, or fit for purpose! The drainage is very poor. As many other reviewers have written, an appropriately designed base which permits drainage and air circulation is crucial to protect birds from disease, We previously purchased an RSPB ground feeder which had a mesh metal base, which was fine. Reading the RSPB product description for this product gave the impression that drainage would be incorporated across the plastic base. This is not the case. Even over a very short period of time, bird food can become clogged or soggy, without appropriate drainage. This can lead to a variety of diseases and cause ill-health for birds. I am perplexed that the ( registered charity) RSPB is prompting and selling such a product. Protecting the health of birds is if paramount importance when selecting food and feeding stations. Perhaps customers would benefit from reading reliable advice from the British Trust for Ornithology.

Along with your previous 'fed-up customer' find sodden bird food unacceptable. The issue is not that the tray is open to the elements but that quoted drainage on this is either absent or does not work. Why, oh why, can this not be supplied with perforated zinc tray like my other ground feeding table?.

I ordered this to inside my metal feeding cage. I have not been dissapointed.
Firstly its nice wood . there is a wooden bar which divides the tray into 4 eaqual sections. The wooden bars can be removed as well as the acetate tray for cleaning.
I was happy with this purchase as I could put different foods into different sections. My birds love it.I can see which foods are the most popular ie sunflower hearts. But the birds love a nibble of everything.
So pleased the other day saw a blackbird and a thrush pop their head inside the cage to grap some mealworms. So I put some food close to the edge so they can access it as well.

The best thing this wooden table along with my narrow metal cage stops the pigeons from getting the bird food.
I love to watch the birds taking their time eating ,looking around and knowing that they are safe from prediators and larger birds.
Really pleased I bought it.I did initially think it was expensive but reaping rewards now.. It does go well with the bird cage .

Bought this for the ground feeders,it’s useless ,the seed and suet gets sodden ,total waste of money,have had 1robin use it all week,it’s going in the bin.i will not purchase any feeders again from rspb

The quality of this ground feeder is very good, but l wish it had the option of a wire draining tray, as I've had to throw bird food away as it's got so wet on the plastic tray. Really fed up as it wasn't cheap. Bought a cheaper ground feeder with a wire tray which the birds prefer and the food doesn't get overly wet.

Arrived in good time and seems to attract the birds. I would welcome some advice on maintaining the wood to prolong its use.

I live at the coast and was having big problems with seagulls, crows and jackdaws stealing the bird seed as soon as the bird table was filled. The ground feeding table and folding cage guardian did the trick. The blackbirds and thrushes took to it straight away and even the wood pigeons manage to get their heads through the cut outs. This is a sturdy, well made table and I will be purchasing another one as soon as product is back in stock.

Was perfect for research that involved attracting a variety of birds due to it's 4 compartments allowing for a range of feeds. Drained as much as could be expected, and was not too difficult to clean after over a month's heavy use. It can attract foxes at night when used with the RSPB buggy nibbles, but is a fault in ground feeders in general, not this particular table. The feeder feels sturdy and well made, so I believe it would last for a long time.

Although the description says a plastic tray is able to be lifted out i assumed there would be some sort of mesh to allow the rain/snow to drain out. I cant find any drainage at the sides that is in the product description either, so, not as happy as I could be with the product. It is sturdy and well built just a little extra thought would make it perfect. Would have returned it, but it was such a tight fit in the packing it had to be torn, and then getting it to the post is difficult, so, will have to keep it.
