    Product information

Provides three separate nest boxes in one FSC ® certified timber terrace, each with its own 32mm entrance hole. Beautifully made in the UK.

RSPB nest boxes provide a safe and snug place for birds to roost and nest. Unlike cheaper alternatives, our bird houses are made from sustainable FSC certified timber and have excellent insulation properties. This makes them warm in winter and cool in summer. RSPB nest boxes are carefully designed with correct dimensions and ventilation, without perches for intruders to grip onto and threaten the occupants.

    Advice

Which size nestbox hole for which bird?
25mm - blue tit, coal tit, marsh tit
32mm - great tit, tree sparrow, pied flycatcher, house sparrow, nuthatch, lesser spotted woodpecker. 32mm entry holes can, if you wish, be reduced to 25mm using a nest box plate (R0110).

RSPB nest boxes are made with thick FSC ® certified timber and will survive for many years, even without the use of preservatives.
If you do want to protect your nest box further, use a water-based preservative (preferably one that complies with standard EN71 part 3 as safe for children's toys). Such paint/preservative types are clearly marked on the container, and are available from DIY stores and hardware shops.
Preservatives should only be applied to the outside of the box. Apply in the winter, when there is a low likelihood of occupancy. This will allow time for any remaining volatile components to evaporate.
For more information about siting a nest box please see the Advice section of the main RSPB website.
Fittings/fixtures are not supplied with this nest box.

    Well made
Very solid, well constructed box which looks good. Easy to mount, not entirely sure how to access the Chambers for cleaning (maybe rspb could help) but very happy with the purchase.
    RSPB response
We are pleased to hear you are very happy with your purchase! To clean the box, loosen the screws on the side panels (level with the entrance hole). Once loosened, the front panel of the box pivots open to allow access to all three chambers.

    Such a shame!
Generally this is a good quality item but is sadly let down by poor quality control. Not only are there no drainage holes but also a sharp nail was left protruding. However most disappointingly was the complete lack of an opening to one chamber. We bought two at the same time but expected better quality checks by the RSPB. Such a shame as the basic materials are solid and of a good quality.
    RSPB response
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear of the quality issues with your purchase. Please contact our customer services team who will be happy to help. These nest boxes do have a gap which runs along the front of each terrace for drainage.

    Perfect on all counts
This sparrow terrace ordered 48 hours ago. Arrived today and fixed in place in ten minutes. The box is well made, strong and looks great. All instructions perfectly clear and for those of you who struggle you should read them. They clearly state to turn the brackets around, how to open the front simply for easy cleaning and there is a clear drainage slot all along the back of the floor. Thank you RSPB. Perfect product.

    Poor workmanship, no drainage
My nest box was received missing 2 screws. One of the sides isn’t properly attached as there is a 4mm gap between it and the rest of the nest box and it is only held by a few nails that you can see through the gap. The roof is chipped in 2 places. The wood is splintered in several places and there is a nail protruding from the front. It is a shame I am not able to upload photos. Also there are definitely no drainage holes at all. I am not impressed and will need to take the whole thing apart to see if it can be salvaged somehow as it isn’t worth the hassle of returning it for a refund. This has completely put me off any further purchases from RSPB which is a shame as I need a bird table and several nest boxes.

    Splendid!
Put one of these up in the autumn, so it would be ready for this spring. The mountings are not particularly useful, but not too challenging.
We have a LOT of sparrows in the garden, so we thought room to expand would be helpful. However, random Blue Tits have appeared for the first time in several years, and have been utilising the box. Not sure how many nests there are, but all three holes have been visited in the past week - perhaps they're deciding which they like best. Or maybe we have several pairs? Difficult to tell, as it's not an easy place for us to observe (have to stand in the vegetable patch!).
Really happy with it so far. Will be purchasing more so we can support even more little friends.

WHAT A PITY A LITTLE MORE ATTENTION HAD BEEN PAYED TO QUALITY CONTROL,I UNDERSTAND WYE THE HANGING BRACKETS ARE FITTED UPSIDE DOWN TO MAKE PACKING EASE BUT ALL THE SCREWS WERE OVER TORQUED AND HAD SNAPPED OFF HALF WAY INSIDE SO FRESH HOLES HAD TO BE DRILLED ALSO NO DRAIN HOLES IF HAD BEEN ON ONE BOX OK BUT ALL THE BOXES WE BOUGHT WERE THE SAME
    RSPB response
Thank you. We are sorry for the quality issue with your nest box. Please contact our customer services team who will be happy to help. These boxes have a different design, with a small gap running along the front of all three chambers to provide drainage.

Poor workmanship /lack of drainage is a shame
There are definitely NO drainage holes at all in this sparrow nest box. Good thick, heavy wood but splintered in several places. Needs weather proofing. If/ when front opener is swollen with wet it will probably be harder to open it up to clean. i wish access could have been through roof as would be easier.
    RSPB response
Thank you. We are sorry to hear about the faulty item you received. There should be drainage holes in the bottom of all our nest boxes, so this should not have passed QC. Please contact our customer services team who will be happy to help.

    Happy families
Bought 2 of these, mounted side by side. It was not long before the sparrows moved in, but also we have a blue tit joining the community! Hope they all get on

    Bracket error
The box is well made and I have added two coats of Superdec for preservation. However, it is important to note that, unlike the illustration on the website, the fixed brackets at the rear of the box have been pre-installed upside down and as such compromise the weight of the box against the screwhead. For this reason I have knocked out one star on the quality. I wonder how many have mounted it incorrectly which could result in plummeting to the ground, even if very slight loose.
    RSPB response
Thank you. It's great that you are happy with this. The brackets are pointed downwards to protect them during transit. These are simply rotated upwards when you come to install the box. It is not possible to mount the box while the brackets are upside-down

    Great quality
Bought 2 of these boxes to replace old nests after building work. Hopefully the sparrows approve. I was very impressed with the quality, the wood is very thick and nicely finished. Just unscrew the top screws to let the front drop down for cleaning (if needed). There were cheaper boxes around, and more expensive, this was the best for us, highly recommend.

    Basic
We ordered two of these. They are well sanded on the outside. You will need to drill holes in the bottom to allow moisture to drain. If you live on the coast you will also need to replace all the screws for marine grade screw. You might also want to preserve the outside so that it lasts longer as the house is made of pine. The most upsetting part was that when someone, where it was made, was drilling in screws, they sheared off the top of the screw and left the screw inside. They knew they did it and left it. That was very naughty and it means I now need to fill it and screw two more holes. Not a big deal but very bad on the worker’s part. Overall all, nice boxes but they do need a bit of finishing.
    RSPB response
Thank you. These should contain sufficient drainage holes for each compartment and all of our boxes are designed to last for years without treatment. We are sorry to hear about the damaged screw and we will flag this with our supplier.

    Excellent
I received my box today and am really pleased with it. This is a good quality, well-made box that I imagine will last for many years. I have sited it high up under the eaves and have my fingers crossed it becomes someone’s residence!

    SPARROW TERRACE
The workmanship in this bird box is first class
I just gave it a coating of protection
and three protective ring plates to stop the likes of woodpeckers attacking box
plus just drill few holes in bottom of box to get rid of water waste overall a fantastic bird box.

    Fantastic
Bought this and put it up and waited a while and no birds. Followed suggestion and put a bit of hay to make it cosy and now its being used constantly. It is beautifully made and good quality and easy to install. I’m thinking of buying another soon.

    Sparrow village
We have two of these boxes fixed just under the eaves with large ,metal brackets. We asked our TV aerial man to fix them which he thought was a great idea! That was 5 years ago and every year we have resident sparrows in both, including now in January 2019. Every home should have one.

    Popular with the house sparrows.
Put one of these up last spring after some of the house sparrows had begun early nesting under the eaves, didn't really expect any takers but all three boxes were used for second broods. It is sited a little way beneath the eaves so I can get the top off to clean, bear this in mind when siting as you will need room for a screw driver and your hand if you wish to avoid having to take the whole thing down. Will buy 3 or 4 more this year as we now have new soffits.

    Substantial and well-designed.
Very pleased with the build quality: thick wood and neat interlocking planks. Very good design enabling cleaning in-situ (two screws to remove and the whole front pivots down :-)

We have loads of house sparrows nesting around our house; bought this as a replacement nesting site for an old outbuilding roof that has just been replaced (and used to house some sparrow nests).

    Well-made and occupied immediately
I received one of these as a Christmas gift, but didn't put it up until late March. Two of the compartments were occupied by house sparrows this spring. I'm especially pleased about this as our modern house roof has no access for nesting sparrows.

Bluetits moved in in less than 3 weeks!
We set up this box in our garden in late March 2016 (aware that it was a bit late to be putting up nestboxes!) and it was investigated almost immediately by bluetits. It is now mid April 2016 and there appear to be two next-door neighbour bluetits using two of the boxes! The entry holes are designed for sparrows rather than the smaller bluetit size so I do hope that doesn't cause problems later down the line as I have heard sparrows often invade tit nests. For the moment it's exciting to sit back and watch the developments as the bluetit mums-to-be dart back and forth with nesting material!
