    Buy these quality versions!
I have previously had a similar product from elsewhere, it fell apart very quickly, I then ordered some different ones from another website, they were useless as they were not removable without taking the whole bird feeder apart. Now I have bought these ones from RSPB, yes a bit more expensive than alternatives elsewhere, but they are a) removable for easy cleaning and b) you can see the quality of this item, they are really well made and sturdy. I should have known better to order cheap ones from elsewhere! Buy these ones and you will not be disappointed!

    Popular addition to the feeder
This small circular tray is very popular with the birds. It was easy to fit and keeps the food well drained despite the rain. Nice to see blackbirds on the feeder - not so sure about the pigeons. Small birds seem to enjoy it as well including the nuthatches and coal tits.

    Not as shown
I am disappointed that the RSPB has not corrected this listing with it's new website design. Six months ago I was misinformed that the square tray was 'old stock' and the round *removeable* tray was new (see my review below). But when I tried to order another recently, I was told the better, round design was the old stock and no plans to provide it again. So why is this style still advertised?

RSPB response - Thanks for your review. Sorry you've had trouble getting the right information. The round feeder, with the removeable tray is the current model. Apologies for any confusion. We'll make sure our Customer Services team know which one is which.

    Buyer Beware!!
The heading illustration for this item shows a round mesh tray, sitting in a holder which is clamped to a pole with a screw. This is ideal as it enables the tray to be lifted out and cleaned. OR IT WOULD BE, but what you get is the rectangular one illustrated on the right when you look at the detailed description. To remove this from your feeder pole, you have to take off the whole thing, by unscrewing ing the clamp. as it's all in one piece! If you've got anything above it on your pole, you'll have to take that off first. So the thing isn't as described, and is not easy to clean!! If you're thinking of buying one of the RSPB's feeder poles, be aware that there is a design flaw with these too - see my observations on this item on its description page.

Improved design with removeable mesh tray
The new design of removeable mesh tray solves the problems of regular dismantling and scratching of the poles for cleaning (and is less bulky so should stay put). However, I first received the 'old stock' fixed square tray and had to get it replaced with the new round one - and customer service took some convincing that the product I had been sent was not the same as the product shown and described on the website.

    Could harm birds
We removed this item from our feeding pole after witnessing a Starling that couldn't fly away because its claws had become stick in the mesh. It got away eventually; but I wouldn't recommend this product. The washable trays are a much safer and hygienic option.

    Damaging to pole
This feeder affixes by a metal screw which will take the paint off your pole. Poor design.

    awkward little beggar for cleaning
It fits a pole OK and stays put (the screw makes sure of that!), but removing it for cleaning is a faff - pulling the pole sections apart... The visiting starlings and wood pigeons like it, but get it in a bit of a mess, which is where the the faffing of removing it for cleaning starts to outweigh its nicer side. A 2-part product would be so much nicer/easier/better.
