Disappointing
I am so disappointed with these feeders which I hoped would give the little birds in the garden a chance against the squirrels and magpies. The two have been up for over 6 weeks but I have not seen any birds feeding. After three weeks I removed the guards hoping that would help but to be honest I think holes are so small the seed can't get out. In fact the seed is so jammed up against the holes some of it had germinated when I cleaned it all out. They are very expensive.
RSPB response
Thank you. We are sorry that you were disappointed with these. Birds can be wary creatures and even 6 weeks may not be long enough to adjust to a new feeder. The clogging is very unusual and we have not seen this in testing or customer feedback.

Disappointing
Had the Guardian for around six weeks now to pair with the "Ultimate e-clean seed feeder". While waiting for the Guardian to arrive, (it was on back-order), the feeder worked well and attracted various birds, and squirrel.

Since combining with the feeder however, no birds have come anywhere near. Feeder on its own - fine. But now not even the resident squirrel comes near.

Seems likely the the bright metal finish is a deterrent - too bright, too garish altogether. Why not green as has been traditional for RSPB products?
RSPB response
Thank you. It's great that you are happy with the Ultimate Feeders and we are sorry for your disappointment with the Guardian. The brightness shouldn't deter birds, though they can take time to get used to any new addition.

Best seed feeder we have owned
It is expensive compared to other bird feeders. However I think you have to pay for the quality. It is quick and easy to fill. It is the only bird feeder we have used that can easily be cleaned. Non metal so no rusting. Have not yet seen a squirrel inside it. A downside is the birds empty the sunflower hearts inside a day when they bring the juveniles to feed. I have just bought a larger version.
RSPB response
Thank you for your review. It is great to hear that you are happy with this feeder and guardian. We should clarify that the fittings are made from metal, a zinc alloy, though this still shouldn't rust. Thank you for feeding the birds!

Doesn’t work
Bought to deter Doves and Starlings, what a mistake. Starlings took a millisecond to work out that clinging onto the lower bars they can poke their heads through and feed from the bowl tray.
Empty in the blink of an eye when they come mob handed and at huge expense of seed.
Only a feeder without a bowl tray would work
RSPB response
We are sorry that you were disappointed with this. The guardian is for deterring large birds only. We do sell anti-starling feeders, such as the My Favourites feeder. However, starlings are endangered in the UK, so we would always encourage feeding them.

Caged BIrd feeder
I needed something that would allow smaller birds to feed and keep off the parakeets and magpies. This has worked very well. All the smaller birds are happy to use it. Although expensive it is robust and well made.

Worst feeder and waste of money...
This is the worst and most useless I have ever bought. It's a complete waste of money not even worth 1star. I haven't seen a single bird managing to gets a seed out of it.
RSPB response
Thank you. We are sorry that you have been disappointed by this purchase. It is unclear from the review what has gone wrong here, but birds can take time to adjust to new feeders. We would recommend giving it a few weeks before re-siting.

Pigeon freedom
With a plain seed feeder on my London roof-terrace, parakeets were feeding heavily and flinging seed about, as they do. This was costing a fortune in seed and, more concerningly, encouraging pigeons to 'clean-up' the seeds: they sat on and squashed my plants and shat everywhere. So, my aim was to rid my feeder of parakeets and so rid my terrace of pigeons. I bought the Ultimate feeder and guardian, set it up and waited. At first, the little birds were nervous and the parakeets noisy. In fact, it seemed that the parakeets could get some of the seeds. However, after a month away, I've returned home to find only small birds feeding--and happily doing so. Parakeets and pigeons are gone. Additionally, the feeder is easy to fill and very easy to clean. Thanks to the RSPB for great design, service and pricing. Good job.
