Product information

This beautiful terracotta bird feeder will look great in both modern and traditional garden schemes, whilst providing an ideal feeding spot for small birds.

In our tests in Bedfordshire it proved especially popular with blue tits and robins when filled with a mix of mealwormsbuggy nibbles and sunflower hearts.

Take advantage of its versatility and hang from a tree branch, tree hook or a feeding station then fill with various bird foods from mealworms to sunflower hearts, seed mixes, and suet pellets (such as our buggy nibbles, berry nibbles or high energy sprinkles). You can also buy this egg feeder with 1kg of buggy nibbles and save £1 >

This egg-shaped feeder measures 11cm in diameter and is frost resistant, with drainage holes. We also sell a terracotta apple-shaped feeder.

Great looking feeder
Arrived with a little chip on the inside edge of one of the circular openings but to be honest I'm too impatient to send it back for a replacement as the egg looks great and I can't wait to put it up in the garden! I can just turn it so the chip isn't visible and its not a safety risk to visiting birds. Overall a great lovely sculptural piece that serves a practical purpose too, I'm very happy with it and hope the birds will be too. On reading the other reviews I think I might need to turn an old pot saucer upside-down, drill a hole in the bottom to hang it over the top to protect the feed from getting too wet, like a weather dome but that's a cheap and easy solution. hoping it is frost resistant come winter time, fingers crossed. Thanks RSPB.

Only the starlings...
...and they get everywhere!

I wanted a safer place for the smaller birds but only the starlings do the gymnastics required to get in and out of this feeder. I imagine the smaller birds might feel quite vulnerable in the enclosed space - the food drops to the bottom of the 'egg'.

It is also quite difficult to fill. Form over function, unfortunately! I've given up on it.
RSPB response
Thank you. We are sorry that you were disappointed. We know that small birds will happily use this feeder, though appreciate starlings can crowd them out sometimes. Starlings are a declining species in the UK, so we always recommend feeding them too.

Needs an Umbrella
I like this ceramic egg feeder a lot, as do the many birds in my garden, especially the Blue Tits, Great Tits, Starlings and Jackdaws. One problem I find with it though is that when it rains, the seed gets wet and clumps in the bottom. It would be good if there were some kind of small umbrella shaped protection that could be installed over it to keep the rain out, something like what comes with the Robin feeder. This is also true for the ceramic apple feeder.

Looks lovely...but haven't had one bird on it in over a week
Thisis really nice quality and looks good but the birds just don't seem to like it. Even the starlings won't go near! My old bird feeder (the old RBPB ones) used to get raided every day but the new plastic holders and this egg get rare visitors :(
RSPB response
Thank you for your review. Birds are wary creatures and can take time to adjust to any new feeder. We would recommend you give these a few more weeks.
