Good, BUT...I have bought these for many years and my garden birds love them. Unfortunately, so do the jackdaws which have recently colonised the Thames Valley town where I live. Being sociable birds, they arrive in a flock and can eat a suet cake in a few hours if not firmly driven away. This has the sad effect of driving some of the other birds away as well, although the blackbirds and collared doves are hardened enough to stay around. Be warned if you have corvids in the area! A hit !The birds who come to my feeders really love this, & it's great fun to watch as they eat. The blue tits have no problem with their acrobatics, but a couple of starlings have been a bit hesitant about the best way to get their share - one decided to sit & watch how others did it & then he was at it too !. Little bits do fly off & drop but then Mr & Mrs Blackbird or a lovely Robin will help clear up. A good product, though I do agree it is rather expensive, especially as it goes quite quickly!. Great productThe birds can't get enough of this. The woodpecker and robins used to just look in wonder at the coconut shells as they couldn't perch on them, however they manage to land easily on the hanging cake and give the blue tits a run for their money. Note have only tried the insect one so far Autumn/winter and have not noticed any crumbling or mess. By Inkberrow robins, on 16 Jan 2016
Super suet hanging cakes
- Product information
We've improved the recipe in our hanging bird cakes.
They're now made with our Super suet formula which means they are just as packed with energy for the birds but they aren't sticky for you! Plus the packaging is much easier to open.
Each 500 g cake has internal supports and can be hung from a hook or bracket.
Most garden birds will eat many different foods. Here's a quick guide to the birds that particularly enjoy this food, though other species may also enjoy it too:
- Blue tit - Great spotted woodpecker - Great tit - House sparrow - Long-tailed tit - Robin - Starling
Our suet products are specially formulated to make them suitable for year-round feeding. However, if positioned in direct sunlight they may soften or melt in very hot weather. If this is happening, try placing them in a shaded spot instead, or waiting until the weather is cooler.
