Love nature food buying guide

RSPB Love nature food is a delicious selection of high-quality foods. Perfect gifts for friends and family. (Don't forget to treat yourself too!)

These yummy treats don't cost the earth.

Love nature food range

Wickedly tasty, ethically made. A guilt-free indulgence, our Love nature chocolate, biscuits, fudge, jams, chutneys, rapeseed oil and coffee are made from ethically sourced, Fairtrade and organic ingredients.

Why is the RSPB selling food?
We know people love a treat (we do too). We wanted to produce our own range of ethically produced, luxuriously tasty treats because we know not everyone wants to feed just the birds. Our Love nature food range makes great gifts for family and friends (and a yummy treat for yourself), and you can chomp away knowing that 100% of the profit goes to conservation. How’s that for a feel-good factor?

Why don’t we use palm and soy in our food?
We don’t use palm oil or soy in any of the Love nature range of foods. Palm oil is an edible plant oil derived from the fruits of palm trees and can be found in many foods (often listed as vegetable oil), toiletries and now bio-fuels. A growing demand for palm oil has resulted in the deforestation of ancient rainforests to provide more land to grow the crops. The farming of soya beans has also led to deforestation and loss of habitat. Instead of using soya lecithin as an emulsifier in our chocolate, we have used more cocoa butter to bind the ingredients together and make it even creamier! For more information about our work to protect the rainforest in Sumatra please visit: http://www.rspb.org.uk/supporting/campaigns/sumatra/threat/disappearing.asp

Where is RSPB love nature food made?
All of our chocolate, fudge, biscuits, jams, chutneys and rapeseed oil are made in the uk. Our shade-grown coffeeis ground and packed in the UK to keep it fresh.

Is your food suitable for vegetarians?
Yes. All of the Love Nature food range is suitable for an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet. We do use dairy products in some, so they are not all suitable for vegans.

Love nature chocolate

chocolateDo you love nature? Us too. That’s why we considered it in every decision during the making of this chocolate. This product contains no soya or palm oil (rainforests are felled to grow soya and palm). It is also entirely organic, so the places where the ingredients were grown are looked after in a way that’s good for wildlife. Most of the ingredients are Fairtrade, so the growers get a fair deal. And best of all, every penny of profit from the sale of this bar goes directly to helping wildlife. Thank you, and enjoy!

Allergy advice
Our chocolate bars have been produced in a nut free factory.
The milk chocolate bar and milk with orange bar contain milk powder so are not suitable for people with allergies to milk.
Suitable for vegetarians.

What makes our chocolate better for the environment than other bars?

It does not contain palm oil - Palm oil is an edible plant oil derived from the fruits of palm trees and can be found in many foods (often listed as vegetable oil), toiletries and now bio-fuels. A growing demand for palm oil has resulted in the deforestation of ancient rainforests to provide more land to grow the crops.

It does not contain soya - The farming of soya beans has also led to deforestation and loss of habitat. Instead of using soya lecithin as an emulsifier in our chocolate, we have used more cocoa butter to bind the ingredients together and make it even creamier! Many chocolate bars found in your local supermarket or corner shop contain both palm oil and soya. We have searched high and low to find a supplier who can produce a product for us that contains neither and tastes delicious!

All of the ingredients are organic - This means that the ingredients have been farmed in a way that promotes greater biodiversity.

Love nature rapeseed oil

biscuitsOur Love Nature oil is wonderfully versatile – cook with it, dress salads with it, or just use it as a dip – perfect with some crusty bread and balsamic vinegar

This premium oil has been produced exclusively from rape seed grown on our own Hope Farm. It has been crushed and bottled in Cambridgeshire, the same county that it was grown.

RSPB has owned Hope Farm in Cambridgeshire since 2000. It is a wildlife friendly farm where successful management for wildlife is as important as growing good crops. Providing important habitats around the farm such as skylark patches, flower rich and grass margins, and unharvested wild bird covers have all combined to allow butterflies, bees, birds and other wildlife to flourish on the farm.

Love nature coffee

Treat yourself to a luxurious coffee break, safe in the knowledge that you are doing your bit to help wildlife.

Love nature fresh ground, medium roast coffee has been especially chosen for the RSPB. The coffee beans are shade-grown by the San Juan del Rio Coco co-operative in Nicaragua. The organic Fairtrade beans are then slow-roasted in drum roasters to develop a sweet caramel-toned coffee with light acidity and a hint of sweet lemon, then ground and packed in the UK to make the perfect cup of fresh coffee. Our ground coffee is ideal for filter coffee machines, percolators and cafetieres.
