Popular but there are not many of them
So popular!I ordered a 2KG bag of these about a month back along with some other stuff, after having quite some success with dried mealworms from another source. Predictably, these absolutely flew "off the shelves" and were gone far too quickly!
Unfortunately, larger birds such as Magpies and a local Jackdaw scour the mesh tray clean in minutes, and Pigeons and Collared Doves, while I'm not sure if they're eating these, flick them all over the floor to be hoovered up by squirrels - leaving not much left for the smaller birds who are intimidated away! However of course that's not RSPB's fault and I'd absolutely recommend this product - IF you have the money to spare.
That's the one catch, for me. These seem really expensive, especially given the speed at which they disappear, given the weight that you get. 12KG of Feeder Mix Extra is £27 but it costs £38 for just 2KG of these! I realise that mealworms must be harder to "make" than seed, but still - seems a bit overpriced to me.
Regardless, these are very good quality dried mealworms that are sure to be a fan favourite in your garden! By Alex, on 3 May 2016
Great Protein for Birds and Hedgehogs!I've been putting mealworms out since Xmas so the birds in my garden have got use to them and I put them in the nooks and crannies of my 12ft Acer tree. The Robin sits on the fence and waits for them to be replenished, but what did surprise me was to find a quite large healthy looking hedgehog hunting round my garden in the area where I put the mealworms. He's obviously enjoying them and knowing hedgehog numbers are in decline, it was nice to see one in my garden after such a long time.

- Product information
Mealworms are a tasty treat that birds find irresistible.
Many species, especially robins and blackbirds, love these additive-free treats, which have all the goodness of live mealworms (beetle larvae) but not the moisture. Sprinkle as they are, or rehydrate by soaking in warm water for a few minutes. Supplied in re-sealable, recyclable pouches.
Store in a cool, dry place and use year round.
Most garden birds will eat many different foods. Here's a quick guide to the birds that particularly enjoy this food, though other species may also enjoy it too:
- Blackbird - Blackcap - Dunnock - House sparrow - Robin - Song thrush - Starling - Wren
During the breeding season you can help parent birds feed their hungry chicks by rehydrating these dried mealworms. This will make them easier to swallow. Just soak them in warm water for a few minutes.
