Poor quality suet balls

Just bought a 150 box of suet balls which I normally buy in a box of 50, the quality is awful and not the same as the 50 box, they are rspb suet balls in the same box I buy from rspb shop at Minsmere which is an hours drive from my home. I found these in a local garden centre and like I said the quality is so poor I will not be buying them again, very disappointed

RSPB response: Thank you very much for your review, we are very sorry to hear about the quality difference you have experienced. The suet ball quality should not differ at all and we will be investigating. We have two types of suet ball, our standard and our super suet. Although the super suet as the name suggests is of the absolute highest quality, we still expect our standard suet to be of good quality so it's disappointing to hear you have received poor quality.

Please do get in touch with customer services who will be able to offer you a replacement. It would also be helpful if you could give us the batch number of the 150 box to make our investigation easier.

Not good.

Just bought a box of 150 for £25.50. For the first time, the birds won't eat them. They fly up to the feeders then straight off again. I had a few left from the last box and the birds fought over them. I've also bought a cheaper version from a pound shop and the birds love them. What's happened to this latest lot? I'm not happy to have paid £25 for a box of bird feed which will be wasted because the birds won't eat them.

RSPB Response: Thank you for your review, I am extremely sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your latest batch of suet balls. We recently had a few batches that had issues but this should now be resolved. Please can you get in contact with our customer service team, who will be able to provide you with a replacement box free of charge. By Val, on 9 Sep 2017

Non recyclable packaging

Why wrap 6 balls in plastic with a polystyrene. One of the least recyclable products on the market. What's wrong with your usual paper bag.

RSPB response: Thank you for your interest in our packaging. As a conservation charity we understand the importance of reducing our impact on the planet and take this very seriously. At the moment we cannot use paper for certain pack sizes, therefore we needed to use a laminate pack that keeps the food fresh, dry and when unopened safe from pests. We have looked into other packaging options but they are unsuitable. For instance biodegradable packaging may start to degrade before the end of the product shelf life meaning we would have high wastage. The other widely recyclable packaging used other processes that were harmful to the planet and conservation such as deforestation. We are still researching how we can make our packaging more environmentally friendly. By Malcolm, on 10 Jul 2017

Suet balls

SKU# M1116

from £1.79

Product information

RSPB suet balls are made with our own unique recipe using premium grade suet, sunflower seeds and cereals. Ideal for feeding from a suet ball feeder or loose, whole or crumbled, on bird tables and ground feeding tables.

Most garden birds will eat many different foods. Here's a quick guide to the birds that particularly enjoy this food, though other species may also enjoy it too:

- Blackbird - Blackcap - Blue tit - Great tit
- House sparrow - Long-tailed tit - Robin - Starling
Advice
Our suet products are specially formulated to make them suitable for year-round feeding. However, if positioned in direct sunlight they may soften or melt in very hot weather. If this is happening, try placing them in a shaded spot instead, or waiting until the weather is cooler.

There are no nets on our suet balls - or any other feed we make - we don't use them because birds and other wildlife can get trapped in them.
